No DRM in Mactels After All

According to this /. article, the reports from before that there was DRM on the Mactel Developer boxes in the form of Trusted Computing were dead wrong. The follow through link has been Slashdotted, but here's the 411: "Apple is not including the controversial Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip in its Intel-based Macs. An anonymous registered Apple developer claims that the Apple x86 test boxes do not have DRM or TCPA components."The question then becomes: Why wasn't this news debunked sooner by other developers running the Mactel boxes? According to the original article, "our source said, 'you can rest assured that Apple is keeping very close tabs on those of us who have them.' The kits are only available to those who accept a non-disclosure agreement." I wonder if there was DRM in the works and the loud Internet outcry caused Apple to retract the decision. Either way, Apple still supports DRM in the form of the iTMS and we should all continue complaining about it until they make a change.
Thanks, Penginkun!

from what I understand, the trusted computer chip is on the motherboard, nothing accesses it but rosetta. of course this is all based on what i've read on the internet. who knows what the final macs will have.
on an off-topic note, tuaw.com's fav icon doesn't load anymore. i noticed this when i book marked it on camino and got the default icon on my bookmark toolbar.

tuaw fav icon loads fine in Safari for me.
Why would you want to remove DRM from the iTMS? That's the only way the studios will allow their content to be hosted and sold in the wild. The studios have control (to a limited extent) on CD copying, but downloads are a completely foreign format for them.
It was a huge leap for Apple to sign up the labels after the Napster issue. I think stripping DRM would eliminate the majority of content from online music download sites.
