Safari trick: Email url's via the address bar

safariHere's a cool trick I was unaware of until today. Mac OS X Hints describes how to email a URL from within Safari's address bar. When you're at the website you'd like to share (like, say, this one), replace the address with "mail-link:" (minus the quotes) and hit return. A new message will be created in your default email client, with the site's title as the subject and URL in the body (as if you had selected "Mail Link to This Page" from the File menu). Cool. I've made "mail-link:" into a Safari bookmark, so now it's just a click away.

Anyone else know of some cool Safari tricks?

And here's one more way to do it -- one I've used since the Safari beta, and continue to use even though there's now a menu item in Safari to do the same thing. Save the following as a bookmark and put it in your bookmarks bar. javascript:location.href='mailto:?SUBJECT='+document.title+'&BODY='+escape(location.href) I named it with just a right pointing arrow from some dingbat font so it takes up precious little space. Works like a charm.

A related toolbar trick is to great a Gmail notification link. Bookmarking the RSS feed from your Gmail account, and saving it to your bookmarks toolbar (I drop mine in a toolbar folder labeled email) will check for new email in your Gmail account as frequently as your RSS settings dictate, and display the number of new messages waiting for you.

I never actually knew you could do any of those. I never go into the file menu:D On a little note: there's no apostrophe in URLs :)

Jon, There are plenty of ways to do this. Personally, I like to drag the URL onto the Mail.app icon in my dock. But you could also use shift-cmd-I. Dave was just pointing out another useful way to accomplish the same thing. And I think a lot of people will find this "trick" useful. Especially the part of just making it a clickable link on the address bar.
