SteerMouse driver for Mighty Mouse

SteerMouse allows you to assign and customize various functions to the Mighty Mouse's "buttons", such as speed, cursor acceleration, shortcut keys, scrolling, double-click, right-click and "snap to" cursor movement, which moves the cursor to whatever dialog button is active (like "ok."). It works with other USB mice as well, with support for horizontal scrolling and up to 8 buttons!
You'll need Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later (with plans to support Intel Macs in the future) to install it and it requires you to uninstall any third-party mouse drivers you may already be using. Apple's mouse driver does not need to be uninstalled, however.
SteerMouse will cost you $20, which sounds steep for a mouse driver. Then again, USB Overdrive is also $20 and it doesn't yet support the Mighty Mouse, so this one may be worth a try. There's a 30 day trial before you have to register it. What I really want to know, though, is how it got to be at version 2.0 already?
Take it for a spin and let us know how you like it.

I just got my mightymice. I switched from 2 or 3 versions of Intellimice (cordless travel, regular, etc.) I love the mightymouse for one simple reason, horizontal scroll in final cut and imovie. Otherwise, the mouse is fairly unremarkable. I just wish it was bluetooth, then it would replace my MS travel mouse with my powerbook.

August 14 2005 at 2:35 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIve been running SteerMouse for about 24 hours now and this is what Apples software should have been. Ran into one problem and emailed the company last night. Had an answer waiting when I checked my email this morning. Cant ask for more than that. I like the fact that I can set custom settings for different apps. Im still in the testing faze, but I will probably pay the $20 before the 30 days are up.

August 12 2005 at 2:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat is ridiculous! I just got my Mighty Mouse and it's wicked. Why the hell would I pay $20 more just to get a feature or two. Unless it does my laundry, I could care less. They aren't going to last long.
