Convert Flash to Screensaver with FlashSaverMaker

flashsavermakerThis post over at DownloadSquad discusses different ways to make your own Flash screensavers. On the Mac end of things, Victor points to FlashSaverMaker, which garners his "vote for Ugliest Site of the Year. But it works pretty well, and it's free, so why complain?" I agree. It's a cool little app. All you have to do is drag a swf file into the FlashSaverMaker, uncheck the configure box, and click on Build to make your own screensaver.

I took one of my old Flash animations and made it into a screensaver, which I released yesterday. You can download my screensaver from here, but don't be afraid to create your own.

"All newer screens are pretty safe from getting burn in." Wrong. Current screens, including LCDs, are very good but are *not* immune from burned-in images. I recommend using a good "screen-scrubbing" screensaver (i.e., one that wipes color across every pixel of screen, like the included 'Beach' or 'Cosmos') starting at 10-30 minutes, then blank the screen after an hour. Going straight to 'blank' will *not* prevent burn-in! This may sound like superstition but I say this as a tech at a large enterprise who is surrounded by literally hundreds of flat panels of various size and manufacture.

Nick, Screensavers aren't really saving any screens at this point. All newer screens are pretty safe from getting burn in.

Unfortunately I don't think your screen saver will save screens. You may want to warn about the fact that it is, for the most part a static image.

That website cracks me up! You all need to at least visit the site this app is hosted on if nothing else. Good old fashioned Dutch ingenuity :)
