Safari 2.0.1 and 1.3.1 released
Apple has quietly released Safari 2.0.1 and 1.3.1 today.Quothe Apple, ' Safari version 2.0.1 for Mac OS X Tiger improves website compatibility, application stability and support for 3rd party web applications. '
The same is true of 1.3.1, though it is for all OS X's before Tiger.
Available via Apple's Download page and Software Update.

Saft breaks with this update. If you use Saft, hold off until it's updated for compatibility. I guess Saft doesn't count as "support for 3rd party web applications" :)

why do I need to restart my mac when all I am doing is updating the browser?

One of those questions I am constantly asking myself. I thought that Microsoft was the one that embedded their browser into the OS so that you were forced to reboot whenever you upgraded, but it appears that Apple has learned some bad tricks.

Because you're updating the WebKit system library that other applications running in the operating system share. Changes to the operating system often require a reboot.

Anyone else noticing a bloated Safari in Activity Monitor since the update? I don't know if it's Safari, or maybe a plugin, but my Safari hogging 20-40% with higher spikes, despite a reset and restart.
