Tiny iPod, huge dock

nanokenKensington's SX 2000 speakers and iPod docking station are, well, really huge. The large panel is the speaker itself, as Kensington is using NXT technology. I think it looks an awful lot like an Apple display if you ask me. Kensington states that any iPod can fit into the device's "Universal Dock" by making use of the included, interchangable "Dock Adapters" inserts.

I think the nano looks kind of silly plugged into that behemoth, but it probably sounds fantastic, so what do I know. You can pick one up for $159.99US.

If the bit that is the speaker was actually an lcd touch screen that displayed album art and visualisations which plugged in to a stereo I might be more enamoured. Oh, and had a remote as well.

I have a different speaker set that uses the NXT stuff and to be honest it is just not worth it. It has NO bass and sounds tinny. The crappy speakers that come with most pcs are better than these. It looks nice though.

What a dumb idea - I have always objected to loud speakers being a visual thing - hide them anyway you can! Apple, come to the rescue!

"Tiny iPod, huge dock" Maybe the dock is close up, and the iPod is really far away...

Just a little off topic, but I got an "Introducing iPod mini" email from the Apple store today. There's a link in it to "Personalise your nano", which leads you to http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore?promo=ipodpersonal Looks like someone at Apple was a bit careless!

"The speakers are behind the large panel" is incorrect. Kennisngton have used NXT technology, and the panel is the speaker Visit http://www.nxtsound.com/industries/popUpNews.php?f_id=677 for details
