Macromedia Studio 8 now shipping

studio8The wait is over; Macromedia Studio 8 is shipping now, just as Dave said it would.

But wait, there's more! If you buy Studio 8 from Macromedia right now ($999 for the full version, $399 for an upgrade) you will be entered into a drawing to win either a 42" WEGA Plasma TV, a Sony Handycam, or a now obsolete iPod mini.

Here are the requirements to run this software on your Mac, for the curious who are too lazy to find it on Macromedia's website:
  • 600 MHz PowerPC® G3 processor
  • Mac OS® X 10.3, 10.4
  • 256 MB RAM (1 GB recommended to run more than one Studio 8 product simultaneously)
  • 1.2 GB available disk space
Studio 8 looks like a good release, and it will most likely be the last release that is pure Macromedia, so check it out.

Tip of the hat to Joshua.

Mark, a trial version is available at the Macromedia website: http://www.macromedia.com/go/trystudio BTW, has anyone heard about Microsoft trying to get in the ring with Macromedia Flash? They're funny: http://tinyurl.com/9ar7y

Those requirements are ridiculous! A G3?? I put it on my Dual 500mhz G4 yesterday and it was slow as hell. I love Fireworks, but not really sad that Adobe bought them. Maybe now their Mac apps will get some optimization. Each release is more bloated than the last. Last time I upgraded, I had to get rid of my Pismo.

I wonder if it is worth upgrading. I didn't immediately upgrade to MX 2004 from MX, but in the end I'm glad I did.

And Macromedia can expect me to ignore Studio 8 completely until I see a sign of Freehand 12.

Oh dang, I gotta get me somma that Dreamweaver lovin'! It looks amazing, I never liked any of that other stuff though. Freehand sucks for sure, I'm not surprised they dropped that from the studio.

...it will most likely be the last release that is pure Macromedia... yeah sure, as if it was purely the decision of macromedia to dump freehand.
