Gmail + Growl: Make Gmail Notifier roar
I didn't create that headline, the makers of the software did. Gmail+Growl is essentially a Growl plugin that works with Gmail Notifier to create Gmail alerts via Growl. Make sense? For those of you unhip to the Growl scene, it's been mentioned on TUAW a few times before, and is quite popular around here. I had to turn it off because my iBook can't even handle the bezels for volume, never mind the inevitable Mail barrage Growl invokes. But that's a story for another day. You Growl and Gmail fans rejoice.

cool idea. the options that the mac verion of gmail notifier provide are SERIOUSLY lacking... you can't even specify how often to check for mail.. aparrently it does it all by its' lonesome.

Personally, I have Mail check my Gmail account and GrowlMail tells me all about it. I feel that this is more streamlined since I already use Mail for two other accounts and the Gmail website likes to be slow whenever I need to check my e-mail (it also doesn't seem to like the Safari back button).

you can set growlmail to give only the number of messages recieved (rather than whole summarys) if you want . look in mail's prefs rather than growl's prefs.
