Video for Linux iPod now supports sound
We've written about the Linux for iPod project before, especially the project's video support. Until now, videos on Linux 'Pods haven't supported sound. Until now.Earlier this week, it was announced that iPod videos will now support sound on all models except the iPod nano. Of course, the iPod will only handle 24-bit AVIs, but who cares? It's video + audio on your iPod! While watching the demo video, I asked myself, "Do I really want to watch clips of The Family Guy on my iPod?" Surprisingly, the answer came back, yes. Yes, I do.
You should note that you've got to install Linux on your iPod to try this out. That said, have at it!

thanks LD but i was trying to get a good explanation on how to do it, seems so overly complicated . we need a drag and drop app that outputs the videos to the ipod. this is one of the greatest things to happen to the ipod (ipod linux) it gives us all the functionality apple refuses to give us! a video ipod - well its about time! just make it easier : (

Also, Makezine's blog has directions for adding the video component: http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2005/09/how_to_play_video_on_ipods_wit.html

Looks like the arms race between Apple and iPod Linux is currently in Apple's favor - color screen 'Pods aren't supported yet . http://ipodlinux.org/Main_Page
September 20 2005 at 10:04 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOk, the iPod photo is not officially supported for the Linux on iPod project. But, from the looks of the colour video, there's ways to get it installed on an iPod photo. I've been searching, but haven't been able to find any sort of tutorial or anything on installing Lunix on an iPod Photo? Can anyone lend a hand? I'd love to give this audio/video capability a try!!!! k.
