Steve says no bluetooth iPod, again

ipod bluetoothEngadget is reporting that Steve, at the Apple Expo in Paris, has denounced bluetooth iPods - again. Jobs doesn't dig the idea for two reasons, the first being bandwidth issues, which is arguable. The second is the fact that most people aren't used to having to charge their headphones. "People hate it," as his Steveness puts it, and I don't think he's far off the mark there. Engadget cites that "hundreds of thousands" of people charge their bluetooth headsets right alongside their mobile phones every day, but I put forth that the number of people who use headphones with some kind of music playing device - iPod or otherwise - might just slightly outnumber tech-savvy mobile phone users who also wield bluetooth headsets. Those far greater masses are who the iPod is designed for - not the comparatively few and proud who've braved BluetoothHacking.com to get their Motorola phone to work with some bluetooth headset from a company that doesn't exist anymore.

What do you guys think? Would the greater iPod-carrying public really get into bluetooth headphones - including making sure they're charged enough to make it through the day?

btw - about charging the headset, why not have the iPod come with the iPod bluetooth headphones, and have them fix on to the iPod somehow (or the other way around) so when ur iPod is docked / charging, your headphones will also be charging. 1 plug. just requires a small connector and quality design.

Wow, Think about trading songs at the cafe through blue tooth Wow. Think about all the people that cannot listen to music while they are working because of the string getting in their way. Wow, They can make blue tooth headphones very small. And all you need to do is remember to charge the Headphones in the morning. That would be fantastic for most of us that have a brain. but for some reason a lot of people are really lazy, it is just a matter of time before people are to lazy to fart and just take a dump in their pants. Its sad when even steven realizes how lazy the world is. SAD. It also sets up a new Company to offer it first, and let them get the jump on that, how dumb is that. Steven what are you thinking, that is strike 1.

Is it me or has everyone missed the plot? The best use of bluetooth in an ipod would be to transfer songs between each others' iPods! Imagine being able to browse iPods in your vicinity, and share the files between you.. that would really piss off the music industry! (and prob why apple won't do it) ...Or... your iPod will let you know when other iPods are near, and if so, u can listen to their stream - just while they're near... Just some ideas for the bluetooth iPod!

I think this would really be a killer if you did Bluetooth but not as a sender but as a receiver. Then if they add in a mic on the earbuds, a touch of software to switch the audio and after pairing your phone, music and calls with no extra bits. Just like skull candy I know but not a extra cable and box

Is it just me? or am I the only one that realizes that there are people that listen to their iPod primarily without ear/headphones. Think ... iPod as *the* remote for your home stereo/car stereo without an add on Bluetooth adaptor.

Unless you can get bluetooth headsets that last as long as the iPod battery, I don't think it'd be worth it. Not only that, you're looking at adding a cost to the production for a feature a majority of users won't find beneficial. The audio sound quality is something that could be worked around, with time -- I don't see that as a real limiting factor. The iPod's sound isn't audiophile-worthy, anyway.

Having your headphones run out because you forgot to charge them and/or their batteries are crap would be a real pain in the arse. Nobody want's an extra set of batteries to worry about. I've actually never even seen the battery empty screen on the 2nd gen mini, 18 hours is more than enough, but are bluetooth headphones going to last this long? Are they going to be loud enough? Is the quality good enough? Am I going to look like a total pnarse walking around with some massive ugly cans on my head instead of white earbuds just to avoid a wire? I think so! Most people use earbuds since walking around with a set of cans on your head looks stupid, and bluetooth earbuds would suck as they would keep dropping on the floor if they fell out without the wire catch them.

From a company that was at the forefront of wireless technology I don't understand why they aren't on to this. It could be an extra feature for the more tech-savvy (or those like Dave and myself that hate the wires!), but the all-important-branding white earbuds could still be the standard way of listening to my iPod. Bring on the Bluetooth iPod earbuds!
