MacDevCenter on Backup 3
Derrick Story has an article up at MacDevCenter called How to Set Up Backup 3 and Save Your Data: "Combined with a hefty 1GB of online storage, Backup 3 provides .Mac subscribers with a robust, easy-to-use workflow for protecting their most valuable data. In this tutorial, Derrick Story shows you how to get the most out of version 3, using both your iDisk and DVDs for preserving your work." In the past, I've simply used Carbon Copy Cloner to make all my backups; however, as I'm currently trying to reinvent myself as a brand new Mac user, I think I'll give these instructions a whirl and see how it goes. Need to try out this plugin too.

Question for the .Mac people out there: is the iDisk any faster? My .Mac subscription ended a few months ago and I just remember the iDisk space not being so slow that it wasn't ever worth putting anything on there. When my subscription ended, I bought a one-year hosting package with bluehost.com for just a few cents less than the money that Apple wants you to pay for .Mac (and with 4 GB storage, no less.) It was a great move as FTP, SSH, PHP and speedy storage are most certainly worth it. I suppose that I won't get those .Mac widgets (if they ever do come out,) but you know that they'll just be to do stuff like measure your iDisk usage anyway.

The UI is horrible, it crashes fairly often, and anyone with less than 1GB of stuff to back up doesn't get out much, so the .Mac integration is minimally useful. Easily one of the worst professional Mac apps I've used recently.
