Record Exec: We want our iPod money
It seems that the record labels aren't happy just suing grandmothers and little girls for pirating music, now they want Apple to let them in on some of that sweet, sweet iPod money. Incensed that Apple won't raise prices for tracks on the iTunes Music Store across the board Engadget reports that Edgar Bronfman, CEO of Warner Music Group, figures that Apple owes the music industry something.Who cares that iPods and iTunes have sparked a major uptick in interest of a variety of music? And why should we concern ourselves with the fact that many, many people are choosing to pay for their digital music rather than getting it in other way?

Question: Apple's [somewhat] banned from becoming a record company, but what about Pixar??

September 26 2005 at 9:10 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is the last straw. I'm writing the record labels and telling them what I think of them... and writing Apple a thank you note. It's about time someone said NO to people who aren't used to hearing it. I know I'm only one person, but writing MTV about Live 8 worked :)

RHYTHMIC CLAPPING - that's too funny, KT! I remember not long ago when Bruce Springstien had his minions invading all the karaoke bars in Pittsburgh, trying to get all the people who were singing Sprinstien songs to pay royalties. Man of the people - right. People like Springstien and Bronfman should take their heads out of their asses and take a good look at reality. Self-important ingrates!

Are they expecting Creative and every other digital music player to cough it up as well? Edgar Bronfman is good at one thing: running companies into the ground. This is laughable.

Warner Music Group can eat it -- and I hope they do. They've spent so much time screwing their clientele, we have no loyalty at all to them. Apple, pick up the independents and run with it.
September 26 2005 at 11:55 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe labels are just pissed they didn't come up with a successful product (music downloads). They are pissed and are whining like little kids. Not only that, they fear their artists will actually have to make GOOD albums instead of just 1 or 2 good tracks on an otherwise crappy album.

September 26 2005 at 11:19 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHmm.. so they'll want a piece of ever musical instrument after they get the iPod, ey? Well, they can take my violin and viola out of my cold dead hands. WHAT WILL THIS DO FOR RHYTHMIC CLAPPING!? Record Company: Um, Ma'am, you just clapped a rhythm that we own. That'll be $300 Clapper: WTF?
