No Photoshop Elements 4 for Mac
Adobe has announced the latest version of its consumer level photo editing and organizing software, Adobe Photoshop Elements 4. The big news--or lack thereof--for Mac users is that this is a Windows-only version. Mac users are left with the last version of the software, Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, which does not include the Organizer and special creation features available to Windows users. What's up with that Adobe?

Or maybe they know something we don't? Photo Pro?

That is called, we are moving everything to XCode because we need to be able to ship this on Intel.

Well, that sucks.
I hope they are just waiting until Intel, but I kinda doubt that...they'd probably be on Photoshop Elements 5 by then (unless Adobe knows something we don't...)
Maybe this is because of that rumored "Photo Pro" software of Apple's? Far-fetched, I know, but it's worth thinking about. Maybe.
I would have probably boughten Photoshop Elements with my new Mac...I doubt I'll buy an outdated version, though. The GIMP it is. :)

Wait... is this a sign that Apple is going to bring out Photo Pro, filling the gap left by Adobe PSE?

John Nack - an Adobe Product Manager (I think) confirms that it will becoming at some point. But obviously he can't pre-announce.
I guess the XCode transition might be behind it as mentioned before.

Really, I can't bring myself to care. I completely gave up on Photoshop some time ago and now use only The Gimp and MacCinePaint. I find all flavours of Photoshop overpriced and overrated.

There's no such word as "boughten."

Any software company shipping large, complex Mac OS X apps right now *better* be thinking about getting their apps in shape to ship as universal binaries. If they're not spending time moving their code to XCode and polishing the hell out of it, they'll pay the price next year.
If this isn't the reason for the delay in PSE 4, it certainly should be.
Oh .... just one more thing.

Here's what Adobe Product Manager John Nack has to say on the subject of a Mac version of Photoshop Elements 4 over at http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack:
"So, what about the Mac version? In short, we've said that it's in development (e.g. see the last line in the first paragraph here http://www.dpreview.com/news/0509/05092701photoshop_el4.asp ). We haven't been any more specific than that, largely because as a public company Adobe has to be very careful about forward-looking statements. (Technically speaking, if you asked me whether we were going to start selling garden gnomes tomorrow, I don't think I could say yes or no.)
And so, fellow Mac users, please don't jump to any conclusions. We don't have a new Mac version to announce, nor can we provide details on when we might have one or what it would contain. That said, Elements Mac development continues, and in the meantime the great Photoshop Elements 3.0 for Mac is available now."

Over on the Adobe.com boards, Element 3 was supposed to be the last Mac version.
