Karelia begins inital beta tests of Sandvox

sandvoxKarelia software first introduced Sandvox, its upcoming WYSIWYG web editor, at WWDC this past June. Sandvox is a web development tool that promises to combine incredible ease of use with an intuitive interface and beautiful, professionally designed templates. I've been eagerly awaiting news of the software's development since June, and this past Friday, Karelia announced that their initial round of beta testing has begun. From the website:

"We are, however, very pleased to say that we have just today released Sandvox in beta form to a select number of users. We have had a lot of people sign up on our web site to get a beta copy, and we will be gradually widening the net to include more and more testers."

Sounds good. I'm looking forward to this one.

Well I'll stick to my RapidWeaver (http://www.realmacsoftware.com). It's easy to use and sufficient for small to medium sized sites. The new version 3.2 (Beta) looks very promising. I can't find a reason to wait for Sanbox and not even one to use it, as the version 1 will naturally be somewhat buggy...

There are other options that seem just as simple as Sandvox. Unfortunately there really isn't anything to replace Watson. That was an application that I could always drop a pc users jaw with. Why oh why couldn't they start from scratch and make a better Watson and change the name? I will never forgive them for selling it.

Brady Frey may be right about designers and the preference for handcoding, but there are many of us out here who are not website designers would like to put up sites and for whom Sandvox will be a useful tool. It seems to me that Sandvox is an aid "for the rest of us."

bah, we shall see. It can do it if they actually try. Instead of messed up wysiwyg code style. A demo mockup I was working on should be made. http://www.aprilcolo.com/oh/chimp/spots/csstweek/

I'd be shocked to see it replace handcoding -- for us designers, it's the only way to fly. No machine has yet to intuitively spit out semantic code via CSS -- only the dumb table based junk, or divitis methods of the modern coders who don't take the time to learn their skillset.
