Many of us in the feed-reading Mac world dearly love Ranchero Software's
NetNewsWire.
FeedDemon by Bradbury Software has an equally rabid following among Windows users.
NewsGator has recently acquired FeedDemon, and if the
rumors are true, they may be about to add NetNewsWire to the fold as well. Such a move would make NewsGator, as
Julio at Pioneer Press put it, "...
an RSS behemoth."
I understand that business is business, but I always feel somewhat sad when one of my favorite independent software companies (or products) gets absorbed by a larger venture. Still, I'm sure the deal will be a good one for the folks at Ranchero. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

If this is true, I wonder what will happen to their other products, MarsEdit, &c.

If that's true and it means that NetNewsWire will synchronise with Newsgator, then it's some of the best news I've heard all year!
I love Newsgator Online. I use it because I get the same feeds (and the same 'read' status on articles) whether I'm at work (on a PC) or at home (on my Mac). I also love Net News Wire, but I don't use it because, well, it doesn't get updated when I use Newsgator.
Also: I have tried dozens and dozens of RSS readers, both desktop apps and web-based solutions, and I consider Newsgator and NetNewsWire to be the very best of each category. I hope this news is true!

This can only be good for the Ranchero people. The end users shouldn't worry as well since this will mean more development cash and more features :)

This pretty much confirms the buyout of NetNewsWire!
