Galerie, my favorite iPhoto addition
When my wife came back from New York she wanted to put a big photo gallery online of her trip, but she didn't want to put it on our .mac account. She also didn't want to use the "canned" templates within iPhoto. So I pulled out one of my favorite Mac apps ever, Galerie. It's a totally simple, completely free, solid app for building photo galleries from iPhoto albums. It uses CSS to build the galleries too, which is a plus.Actually Galerie works with more than iPhoto. Pretty much any set of pictures, audio, or even movies is fair game. It includes a comment system and counter, plus a pretty good collection of additional themes. There are lots of other features, like EXIF support, but just try using it and you'll see what I mean. Very snazzy.

I've been using Galerie for nearly two years and it's truly invaluable. It is so versatile that it puts even the .mac photo galleries to shame (spot the difference in picture quality of thumbnails etc too).
A truly essential Mac app.

Thanks for the tip - this is exactly what I've been looking for, and since I already have a website, this couls be the tipping point to cancel my .mac membership.

I tried this app before, but since I want all my website code to be clean (CSS-only for all formatting, so no tables) it actually caused me even more work than before.
Eventually, though, i just decided to use Flickr for my gallery needs.

While Galerie is a fine program, it does not allow automatic creation & updating of a folder structure with images sorted in a few folders & subfolders. You have to do every folder & subfolder set separately and then create main indexes for the respective levels. For that reason alone I do not use it and prefer JAlbum from datadosen which does have that functionality.

Make sure you check out Slide Show Pro. It's Flash-based output is far, far more elegant than .Mac or Gallerie, it has an iPhoto plug-in and is even compatible with Flickr!

I use and like Galerie. Glad to see it mentioned on tuaw. The included templates are nice. If you know a little HTML it's not hard to customize them.

If you use Coppermine galleries on your server, there's also an iPhoto plugin for uploading and album creation, that I've found is pretty handy. It's called CopperExport, and it's worth a go if you want a MySQL solution.

I would second Slideshow Pro. Here's an example I did for work:

Yes, but Slideshow Pro costs money. Not that $20 is too much to pay. It's *worth* it, if you need all those features. Another downside is being tied to Flash (also a non-free app). If I really wanted to go that route, I'd just use Photoshop (yet another non-free app). But then, I am a lazy and cheap little man.
