Universal iPod Dock
This may not be the biggest new Apple product of the day (not by a long shot), however, it is long overdue. Apple has released the Universal Dock that will fit all versions of the iPod that have a dock connector. iPod photo owners need not hang their heads in shame because of their less than svelte iPods now.Besides embracing all iPod models, this dock works with the new Apple Remote control (bundled with the new iMacs, and available for purchase separately) so you can control your iPod from across the room. Pretty sweet, and all for $39.
I'm sure Laurie will pick up one or 18 for all her various iPods.

I doubt it, but this wouldn't happen to allow any computer to use the remote, would it?
Also, am I going to be able to download Front Row on my eMac?
Finally, I posted this elsewhere, but are the nanos going to be video enabled? I also doubt this.

I second enabling video for the nano. As I recall, the hardware in the nano and all color iPods can process the video - we just need a software update from Apple, right?
Also, it looks like the universal dock connector will enable video out for the nano - confirmation?

Actually, not "all" Dock-based iPods: it doesn't say that it supports the nano. Yes, of course the nano would fit - it does on the dock that I currently use with my Gen4 iPod - but it won't fit as well as the nano dock would.
Just an FYI.

Hey Randy, if you follow the link to the Universal Dock item in the Apple store and scroll all the way down you'll see a little graphic listing the iPods that the dock fits.
First one listed: iPod nano. :) I bet they have some sort of plastic dealie that makes the fit a little snugger.

Scott, the nano itself comes with the adapter for the Universal Dock -- according to Apple, every iPod from the nano on will include an adapter to let it work with the Universal Dock. (The Dock also includes 5 inserts that let it work with some of the most recent iPods.)

This is one my list to purchase. It will come in handy... just curious about future iPods and firewire synching support.

I just got the Video iPod, straight from Singapore (where the respective manufacturer of the new iPod resides).
Supplied with it is a dock adapter, which I belive is for the "Universal" Dock. Unfortunately I cannot find one at a local Apple Store to test and evaluate for proper functionality, but I can find it in the online Apple store.
Plus,I cannot get the $#@% iTunes application to upload any video files to the iPod. I use the Quicktime pro Codec to modify video files (which are accepted by iTunes), but iTunes will never upload the video files. This is clearly a severe UI oversight on Apple's part. It's quite disppointing, really.
Anyone know anything about these issues?
If anyone with the correct info is willing, I would much appreciate an e-mail with the info.
Also, I like the graphic effects tuaw.com logo on this site. Is there a Photshop plug-in for it, or was that done manually?
Thanks!!
