Transfer files to Gmail FTP style with gDisk
gDisk is an application that allows you to transfer files to and from your Gmail account FTP-style. Login, create a "directory" and upload your file. The next time you log in to your Gmail account, you'll see that a new label has been created bearing the name of the "directory" you created, and that the file you uploaded is in your "Drafts" folder.I think it's pretty clever. I'm only using 2% of my available Gmail storage space right now, so why not make use of the idle 98%? gDisk requires Mac OS 10.3 and above and a Gmail account (but you know that). The source code is available if you'd like to tinker around with it.

I tried it out, and it works pretty well. It works for files larger than 10 GB, which is a plus. My one gripe is that is stores the files as drafts, so if you upload 100 files, you'll have 100 drafts in your draft folder, which is a bit of a pain. I suppose once it's uploaded you could send it to yourself. It would be nice if the app sent it to the gmail account as new mail, then automatically archived and labeled it.

Sorry, that should be 10 MB. Or is that a strategic slip of the tounge by a google insider foreshadowing what is to come...?

I didn't want my Drafts folder getting clogged with uploads, so I established a new gmail account and use it only for gdisk uploads. Why not, they're free... . (So many passwords, so few braincells.)
