Griffin announces AirClick with dock connector
Today, Griffin Technology announced the availability of the AirClick remote with dock connector. The AirClick is a spiffy IR remote for the iPod, and works with the current iPod (with video), the 4th generation iPod, the iPod mini and nano. The AirClick ships with both a receiver and an IR remote. Just plug the receiver into the iPod and use the remote to play or pause your music, adjust the volume or skip forward or backward. Sounds good for when you're lounging in the backyard on an autumn evening. Stand up and walk over to the stereo? I think not!
Griffin intends to begin shipping the AirClick in mid-November, and they're currently taking pre-orders for $39.99US

Yeah, I agree with the above. Unless these manufacturers start delivering pass-thru solutions that maintain normal dock conenctor functionality (esp. lineout), I'm not going to by single one. What's the purpose of this thing if you can only use it under battery charge. When Apple's licensing fee greed causes design/functionality problems, that's not good for anybody, including Apple.

October 18 2005 at 2:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyCome to think of it, the deletion of the remote port is a ploy by Apple to make all accessories of this type use the dock connector and in turn pay the dock connector licensing fee to Apple. Good for Apple ... bad for the consumer in more ways than one as shown above.
October 18 2005 at 2:58 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis thing is going to need a dock pass-thru on the bottom to be of any use. I use an air click in my Ipod photo in my car and I love it.
October 18 2005 at 2:01 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe RF receiver plugs into the dock connector on the iPod and precludes the use of the dock for line out audio and charging. This is the first example I have seen that shows the problems Apple have caused by deleting the remote control socket next to the headphone jack on the new iPods.
