5G iPod replacement, no questions asked.
Certified Apple service providers have been notified to replace 5G iPods with hardware failure for just about any reason, even neglect or customer abuse, reported AppleInsider yesterday. This lenient replacement policy is in effect for an undisclosed short period of time. The Nano scratch backlash brought on the el-cheapo sleeve included with the 5G iPod, and may have also triggered this limited time replacement mandate. Does this mean that Ars Technica can redo their Nano crushing trick, this time with the 5G iPod? We're not sure just how forgiving this new replacement policy is.[via Engadget]

I'm also getting some updates problems with MP4 Movies... Even tho I encode my DVD movies the right way, some just wont update on my 5G... Is there a special piracy protection? I rip my own DVDs to be able to watch them on the go using Handbrake, and once they are in MP4 format, into my Itune Library, I cant seem to update my Ipod... all options aare set... Some have been updated others dont... Some ahve this problem with movies? Is this considered hardware problem?

October 27 2005 at 1:48 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI agree with Billy K to a certain extent, I think the dock, mains charger and firewire cable (before it got slashed ) accesories to be standard, I think the case is sufficient, it's only trend whores who complain about it. Now I can dig the reasons why there might be cuts to accesories like the cables and stuff, that's besides the point. I got mine replaced no worries, I'm expecting my new one in a few days. I think it's safe to conclude that apple's price slashing has gone too far and a case should be a standard accesory, after the nano cases and the class action law suit coming on I can't see a reason otherwise to spawn free sleeves being included. It is too anomolous to just be a plenned good will gesture.

October 27 2005 at 11:46 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHey - I've got an idea, why don't you give us a FREAKIN' CASE, Apple!? I got my black 5G 60gb two days ago, and I'm afraid to use it, for fear of the scratch. I mean, what happened to the days of including a (real) case? (or dock ro charger, for that matter) You can't even BUY a 5G case at the apple store. I went in there ready to buy a case along with the iPod, but no such luck. I mean, right now, it's an accident waiting to happen. I am NOT going to drop or scratch this thing, so I just use it very little, and that's a shame. P.S. No. 1, I have the same groggy thing going on, and it bugs the hell out of me. But I didn't have any album artwork until last night. WTF?
October 27 2005 at 11:41 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI find the el-cheapo remark to be a little bit off. I quite like the sleeve. It's soft on the inside to protect the ipod, fits it VERY snug, and I think looks pretty nice. It's no muffpod or anything, but for a throw-in I think it's pretty good. It also kept my new iPod nice and scratch free until I got my invisibleSHIELD which I installed last night.

October 27 2005 at 8:56 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyanyone else have this problem with their 5g ipod... i'll plug it in and it will update fine, i'll leave it plugged in to charge, and then 10 minutes later i'll want to update it again (added song/podcast to the library) but it will say can't read or write to the hard drive, so i have to unplug it and plug it back in... anyone?
