QuickSynergy
Remember SynergyKM, the GUI tool for installing and configuring the open source keyboard/mouse sharing application Synergy? Another pair of developers have released QuickSynergy, an another GUI-based alternative for implementing Synergy.QuickSynergy doesn't actually require the installation of Synergy to work as the binaries are within the QuickSynergy application. All you have to do is download and run QuickSynergy and then configure it via the application. Very nicely done.

That's cool and I'm glad they made it. But it doesn't look as good as SynergyKM. Not as many options - can't remap keys, etc. Also, it looks like it has to be open to be run (I'm not sure) - but I much prefer the System Preferences pane to a separate application.

damn... what do i need to do to get this to work? it says everything is running fine, but the mouse does not go to the other computer...?
Do i need to run the original Synergy for this to work? I was under the impression I did not have to?
See version 2:
Version 0.1 (nov ?, 2005)
Only saves the configuration file.
Buttons Star and Stop are disabled.
Version 0.2 (nov 02, 2005)
Synergy2 added to the Application
Saves the configuration file, and executes the server daemon.
Version 03. (nov 04, 2005)
Added the Client
Can run the Client or Server daemon.
Any help? I must be doing something wrong?

make sure synergy is running as a client on the other computer. synergy is an awesome app. i used it once with one computer as the server and two laptops. the desktop was a pc, one laptop mac, and another linux. truely a great experience.

yeah i am running as a client on one and server on the main one. I do have a dual monitor setup on the desktop... maybe that's it?

if you want to do it the old-fashioned way, my how-to is here:

I echo terevos comment. This is cute, but I think a preference pane like SynergyKM is the appropriate place for a utility like this. Always on. I leave SynergyKM running on my PowerBook. When I get to work, I plop down the PowerBook, plug in the ethernet and let it sit for ~1 minute. After that time it's connected to it's synergy server and all is well in the world.

I've got Synergy running cross-platform (Windows Server, Apple Client) right now, without one of these nice configuration apps, and I love it. I'll take a look at this at home, but for what it's worth, it is, in my opinion, mandatory that the app lets me remap keys. You wind up losing a lot of functionality without that feature.
