Griffin Earthumps

Earthumps Apple is making black iPods, but no black earbuds. What's up with that? Lucky for us Griffin Technology, the company that says 'why make a few iPod accessories when you can make hundreds of thousands of them?', have just introduced the Earthumps.

They come in black or white, and they were designed specifically for the iPod. They are supposed to make your listening experience much better by isolating outside sounds and delivering better bass to your ears.

Perhaps now C.K. can stop whining about not having black earbuds for his iPod, but I bet he won't.

Here's a question for you, since I know you have an iPod, do you use the earbuds that came with your iPod, or something else?

My slightly broken bose triport headphones all the way! They aren't at all convent to carry around, so I have some sony headphones, along with the original Apple ones as backups.

I figure these were like the Sonys so I thought, why bother, until I was reminded of that weird asymmetry of the sony earbuds. I like the snug fit, but the closing of the ear canal, and the sound pressures feel dangerous- I'd prefer apples cheese graters merely be sized differently (and not necessarily lodged in the ear canal) I also thought Ear Thumps was a stupid name reminding me of the booming pressure I dislike about closed canal buds, until I read it as Earth Humps.

I use a very nice in-ear pair of headphones from Phillips, and yes they match my new black 60GB iPod.

I use Apple in-ear but refitted with the foam sleeves for the Shure E2C. Sounds great. The earbuds always fell out of my ears.

Ugh. Sorry about the duplicate. The site sent me one URL to confirm my post, and after I did that it sent me another one -- and at that time my comments did not show up here. So, I clicked on the second one too. I wonder if there's some way they could catch that...

If I get the Apple earbuds into my ears "just right", they work great and feel fine. If they aren't positioned "just exactly right", they become very very uncomfortable over time. When I got my second ipod, I didn't even open the packet which held the earbuds. I have Sony MDR-NC6 noise-canceling headphones, and am not too impressed. The noise-canceling is good but not great, and they have to be the most uncomfortable headphones I have ever purchased in my life. I have a pair of the Bose QuietComfort2 noise-canceling headphones, and they work great. Unfortunately the headband on mine broke and I haven't gotten around to sending it in to be fixed yet. They are just a little heavier than I'd like, but not by much. And they cost a little more than I'd like! I have the Shure E3c noise-isolating earbuds, and they work great and sound great, although they are a little TOO good at blocking out sound for what I need here at the office. I find they get a little uncomfortable if I have them in my ears for more than four or five hours straight. I suspect that would be true for any earbuds. And there are times when I want to be listening to my music here at work for more than eight hours straight. But I do think these are very good earbuds. I have some Sennheiser headphones (but not a noise-canceling model), which sound great, but I need to have those repaired too. At some point I got cord on them caught on something, and kinda pulled out the cord from one of the earpieces. So, now that side keeps cutting in-and-out as I move my head around slightly, which is very distracting! Until that point, I liked them the most. I have some other cheap headphones. None worth talking about. So I'd go with Bose Quietcomfort or Sennheiser for headphones, or the Shure's if you like earbuds. I'll probably get a pair of Sennheiser PXC 300 noise-canceling headphones after christmas, just to try those out.

I add a vote for the Sony MDR noise-cancelling (that is ACTIVE noise-canceling). I've got three virginal sets of Apple headphone unopened in plastic and a couple of iPod remote controls. The Sonys can be had for $100 refurbed (take THAT Bose) and fit in your palm. They are a godsend on long flights - both for iPod and the movie. With the Sonys, you can actually hear the dialogue! Every time I see someone listening to an iPod with stock 'phones, I think "Some people just don't like bass."

I use a pair of Grado SR60 at home and when I'm on the road, I use a Koss Porta Pros. Much better sound quality.

I use the shure E2Cs. They're really great in sound quality, although the cord is a little bit heavy. I checked ipodlounge before buying nice headphones, and I'm really happy with these. Especially the different ear buds. I would kill for UE's version of the 5C. Everyone here is making me wish I saved up for the 3Cs.
