Tip of the Day
To get an instant map to any address, just go to your Address Book and right click on the address field of any one of your contacts and select "Map Of." The address will then be revealed in Google Maps on Safari. You can do the same if a data detector determines there is an address in an e-mail in Mail.

MMhhh, maybe I should update my first Generaton 10GB iPod soon.......
It IS a bit scratched, though not even close to as badly as the ones I saw at BestBuy on display.

It may thick, but it's also tough. In the 4 years I've used my 1G (everyday! still!) I've dropped it more times than I can count, it never did a bit of harm. My friends with 3G and 4G models? Well, they haven't been so lucky.

Indeed, I still have my 1st gen iPod and I'm still using it almost daily. I'll never sell it and i'll never throw it away!

Remember, first generation iPods only came in 5GB models. They had the mechanical scroll wheel. the 10 GB and 20 GB iPods didn't come until the second generation and they had the touch-sensative scroll wheel. Just to everyone remembers. It's just a pet peeve of mine.

But notice the similarity between the two. They both have flat tops that was done away with in the 3rd and 4th gen iPods.

Yeah I have exactly the same setup. Just got a new 30GB to replace my 5GB. I must say, the best part about the original is the scroll wheel. To me, it doesn't look ancient... it's more classic.
What amazes me is the comparison of 4G to 5G. One generation difference, and yet the 5G makes the 4G look positively ancient.

Actually, the 10GB started as more of a generation 1.5. My trusty iPod is a 10GB, but it still has the mechanical scroll wheel (which I still prefer to any of the newer versions).

I also think that the first 10GB iPods where actually still Ver. 1.0 as I do have a mechanical scroll wheel which gives nice feedback, the newer ones don't always seem to work :(
Or what exactly was the difference between the original 5GB and the revised 10GB?

I thought I might have been the first to say that I still have my 1st gen 5GB, but congrats to everyone who also has one.

I, too, have a first gen, 10 GB iPod, with mechanical scroll wheel. I just got a new 5th gen iPod, and I really miss that mechanical scroll wheel. Almost every time I click the middle button, it interprets it as a quick scroll follwed by a click.
Infuriating!!

I think it is like this
1g - five gig, then a few months later ten gig, mechanical wheel
2g - smudgy touch wheel 10 and 20 gig maybe (capacity becomes confusing rather quickly)
3g - more sensitive touch wheel with button row, and dock
4g - click wheel (and minis)
photo shuffle nano and then
5g - iPod with Video
was there a 15 gigabyte iPod?

Whenever I get around to purchasing a 5G iPod (along with my Intel Powerbook), I'll put it next to my 20GB 2nd gen iPod. That model was the thickest, heaviest model ever made. Solid as a brick, but nearly as heavy as one.
