So lament no further, you can run that server or VNC service you've been pining after all these years. Oh and best of all, it's free.

Im using zoneedit ( zoneedit.com ). They provide free name serving, and mail redirection ( all my mail gets redirected to gmail ). Team it up with dnsupdate ( search macupdate.com ), which is a really easy to use, reliable client for dynamic dns services. Why did I choose this path, because you get to buy the domain name you want, and host it anywhere. You can even host subdomains in different places.

i'm using dyndns for my linux box at home. that works great. although they prohibit to check for a changed ip address too often. so if you don't want too much downtime. do the ip check via a little script locally. that compares your actual ip address with a stored one from a little earlier that day, about 10 minutes ;). if it changes you can force the ipupdate at dyndns.

You might not want to expose VNC to the outside world directly - better to tunnel over SSH, and make sure everything else is locked down tight. As a start: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050815135941513 http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2005021023215253
