Apple adds NBC, SciFi, USA to iTMS

Knight RiderGet out the popcorn and your 5G iPods everyone, because Apple has added a ton of new shows to the iTMS from the likes of NBC, USA, SciFi and Disney. The Office, Monk, Battlestar Galactica (including the miniseries), The Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Law & Order and Surface are among the newcomers. But wait! There's more: peep the vintage NBC shows like Knight Rider (no joke), Dragnet and even some Alfred Hitchcock.

Sounds like these networks were listening to everyone's prayers after all, especially NBC, since they really seem to have taken the plunge, what with the vintage content and all. I think it's a great idea to resurrect old content through the iTMS instead of only offering the latest and highest-rated shows.

So what say you, TUAW readers? Are you satisfied with the new shows, or are you still not feeling the love from the iTMS video offerings?

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Sgt. Bilko would be cool, since they don't seem willing to release this show on DVD. Course, I'm in the UK so ANYTHING would be nice!

Personally, I just don't think the market is ready.. Hollywood and TV stations are still playing "REGIONAL" coding and sales limiting games... HELLO! WAKE UP AND SMELL THE DAMN INTERNET! Internet is global! WHAT REASON IS THERE TO RESTRICT THINGS REGIONALLY FOR SALES? (What rational, logical, and supportable reason that has nothing at all to do with corporate greed!)... Why is music or video limited to one country or another when anyone might want to buy it anywhere? I just don't understand this.. I never understood it on DVDs since by that time, video nolonger had to be a function related to power frequency differences (50 Hz vs 60Hz) and players could use routines to auto-convert content to one format or another, but on a computer??? For goodness sakes, there is no rationelle for this regional pettiness anymore.. If you only wanted just English content, that's what search engines and "search by" preferences are for... Why segregate things artificially like this? Come on studio execs.. pipe up and defend yourselves on this, because I really don't think you can convince me or the public with any good arguments on it.. Nope, currency doesn't work either, that can be automatically calculated by the website. Taxes? Same thing.. Give me a logistical reason that isn't resolved by the Internet or computers.

@Michael: your hint does not work. In order to buy stuff from the U.S. iTMS, you need a U.S. credit card. I e.g. live in the bahamas, which is right by the U.S., so i figured I'd link to the U.S. store, especially with all their content.... No luck, I had to link to the Swiss iTMS, because that's where I have my credit card. And try signing up for a U.S. credit card from abroad... no waaay! I say we should all petition for the networks to release their content internationally... with old shows like mash, simpsons, cosby show, knight rider the delay problem for airing internationally should be nonexistent... It's in the networks best interest: imagine the huge market that would open to them... and yes, even if the episodes are in english lots of people would buy them.

The previews for Battlestar Galactica are jacked. The previews for every episode I checked were from the "Previously on Battlestar Galactica" segment of the episode. So when watching a preview of an episode, it shows nothing from the actual episode.

Now we just need: Star Trek Family Guy The West Wing Commandar and Chief Futurama The O.C.

#25, unfortunately, although you can go and browse the USA store from any country you aren't able to purchase unless you've got a US bank account... Otherwise, no-one would be paying the $3.29 it costs for each video in the tiny selection available in the UK (or the $1.38 per track for that matter). Si P.S. Although it's up to the networks when they start exporting shows outside the US, plenty of the iTMS content has already aired in the UK. In fact, we got the first series of Battlestar Gallactica on air before the US did.

ALL Battlestar Galactica! I've missed so much, now I can catch up -- and who cares about the resolution, I've plugged my video iPod into the TV so my girlfriend could catch up on all the desperate housewives, the quality looked almost as good as tv, we didn't even notice a difference really. I'll agree about the sparse content on some offerings, though -- for 2 bucks I should have the whole show of Leno, not a few minutes... just like I'm getting a full length show in other options. I hope the hitchcock's are full length. Either way, we add the simpsons, geek out and offer some old star trek, put some seinfeld on there and older loved shows like Cheers and Taxi -- it's on.

I was so excited to see that NBC had gotten on the bandwagon, until I noticed the one NBC show I want is not on the list. What about My Name Is Earl? In a perfect world, I'd have My Name Is Earl (NBC) Nip/Tuck (FX) and Family Guy (FOX). As far as vintage shows... The Greatest American Hero kicks Knight Rider's butt any day.
