DockStar
We all love the little red badge on Mail.app that tells you how popular you are (ok, it actually tells you how many unread emails you have, but that's the same thing, right?). However, if you have more than one account in Mail the icon is almost useless to you.Enter DockStar, this clever little program allows you to have up to 5 badges, displaying email from 5 different email accounts, in the Mail icon. The best part is that you can pick different colors and shapes for the badges.
Thanks to everyone who sent this one in.

doctopus makes your dock look way too cluttered/busy, in my opinion.... check it out: http://www.startly.com/images/products/screen-docktopus-inaction.jpg

December 06 2005 at 10:00 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhile this is a nifty little Mail add-on, there's a better solution. DockStar is $8 to own, which is a good value, until you compare it to Docktopus. http://www.startly.com/products/docktopus/ Not only does Doctopus do what DockStar does, it also gives you Mail Peek, which allows you to hover over a Mail badge and see the 5 most recent emails to that account. Plus, Doctopus is for more than just Mail. There are badges for iTunes, iCal, file folders and much more. Doctopus is $19.95. The $11.95 extra is worth it.
December 06 2005 at 9:56 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI like this a lot! Just yesterday I installed and setup ActOn: (Story from Macoshints.com) http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050621132840382&query=acton (Web Site) http://www.indev.ca/MailActOn.html It is free (donation-ware) and works as expected, but DockStar does exactly what I've always wanted: different notifications in the Dock for different mail boxes. You don't need to have multiple accounts as stated in the story. Look at the Tips and Tricks link on the DockStar main page. DockStar is not free; its $8, but worth it for me anyway. --Jeff
