I've been using portable Firefox with my keychain flash device for a little while now, and today reader Dimitri has pointed out the Mac-on-a-stick project. Basically, it allows you to put a completely functional version of the Macintosh operating system (in this case, system 7.0.1) onto a USB flash memory device. To accomplish this feat, you'll need:
- The Mini vMac emulator
- A ROM image
- A disk image to act as the flash device's "hard disk"
- Older Macintosh system software
- A USB flash key device (32MB will do the job)
Thanks, Dimitri!

The point is you have an entire computer on a stick. I'm going to set this up on Saturday and spend all day playing Might & Magic III for the first time in ten years. All I need is my copy of Green Day's Dookie for the soundtrack and I'll be set. :)
Oooh! And Pathways into Darkness! Yes! Hmmmm...mebbe I should do this tonight...

For Windows users:
You can unpack the .bin file with StuffIt Expander, a free download. http://www.stuffit.com/win/expander/index.html
The only problem is that when you unpack the file all you are left with is an Apple smi file. I don't know how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie-roll center of an Apple smi file.
*note
smi files are "Self Mounting Image" files.

OK, so, as far as I can't see how to edit that wiki page, I just wanted to point a way the Windows users can create a blank disk file, without the need to be near any Linux or Mac.
The HFVExplorer is the only tool you need for that. Go to File/Format New Volume... Make a good name, change the volume size, and then choose the volume file path. Few seconds. You are done.
