Things to do in San Fran at Macworld
The tickets are purchased, and the boss man told me today that Macworld is considered professional development, not vacation... So I'm really stoked about going— my first trip to Macworld, San Francisco, and even the West coast. Macslash has a thread about what to do when you get there. As well as a link to Ilene Hoffman's site, where eventually she'll post up a list of parties. And the MacGuys have posted up some hints and tips as well. From what everyone says, my pilgrimage to Apple HQ will be quite uneventful, as I can't go until Saturday, when the store and campus will be closed. Unless of course some kind employee would like to give a tour? My only question now is how long before the keynote should I camp out?[Photo by Gary Parker, Courtesy of Apple Computer, Inc.]

A great local site that is gradually going national is called Yelp (www.yelp.com). Full of fun, funky reviews and very little spam or crapola. Search for the kind of place you want and you'll find plenty of advice and reviews. Check out the talk features too, if you post a question you'll get scads of good advice from locals. It's a fun site.

I'm a little bit amused that one would need a "what to do in San Francisco" guide as I've only been there for a few days and there were far, far more fun things to do than time to do them. But I guess if you want to do the non-obvious or mac-related stuff, hints are in order.

There are other options besides the concessions on the show floor, and the restaurant in your hotel. Here's a downloadable walking map
Actually, if you really want to be "in the know" those from this area simply call it "The City." We also use the rather anachronistic "town," as in "Are you coming to town?" (the town being specifically "The City") If you want a fun trip wear comfy shoes and walk from Yerba Buena/Moscone Center up through Union Square, through Chinatown and into North Beach (the Italian and Beat poet neighborhood). Hike up to the top of Telegraph Hill, down the Filbert St. steps (lush gardens and amazing Bay views) and out onto the Embarcadero. Turn south and head back to Market St. and follow Market back to where you started.
