I don't want a Nano, gimme a mini

iPod miniSure the iPod nano is selling like hot cakes (mmm, hot cakes) but at places like Ebay the iPod mini is selling like hotter cakes. Not only are these old school iPods selling well at the online auction site, but they are selling for well above their orignal $199 price tag. Crazy? Yes. Crazier? The fact that people are paying more for an iPod mini than a brand new iPod nano would set them back.

Are the pretty case colors that important to you, people?

Most girls I know, like the mini more than the nano, because of the pink of course.

I like my pink 1st Gen iPod mini, but I would happily trade up to a black or white nano. Actually, at this point, I'd rather have the Video iPod for its versatility and larger HD. I think it's the nostalgia factor coupled with a bit of crowd mentality that is driving people to buy used iPod minis for more than they are worth. If you want a blue iPod, buy a nice sleeve for your nano.

I work at an Apple retail store on the east coast (one of the larger ones), and we get dozens of people a day coming in to buy the mini, only to be saddened to hear we don't make them anymore. It's probably a 50/50 split... some buy the nano and can't believe then get it for the same price the old mini was, the others (mostly people buying gifts) usually just get nothing because they loved the colors etc. and heard the "i want a mini" assuming the person would be upset to get anything else. I'm totally convinced that we should have kept the mini and introduced the nano along side it. both would sell well, more than just the nano by itself

Makes one wonder how important the color screen really is

There is a hot market for an iPod WITH a screen for under 200 dollars.

The second "Jobs era" has been marked by Apple attempting to push the envelope by cutting products/features early: - No floppy on the first iMac - I personally own a G4 "Digital Audio" where Apple thought mic inputs were just not worth adding. - The rumor about Apple "moving away from" firewire?!?!?!?! This one is just baffling and INCREDIBLY stupid. And unrelated to this post, sorry. I can understand the logic - everything needs to be fresh and new - but in the case of the Mini, it might have been worthwhile to keep them around through Christmas. I agree with previous comments that the Nano is good for running BUT it seems delicate and (like a 5G) I'd be scared to scratch the screen while working out. I think the Mini was nice because it did seems like the most durable iPod to date.

The sudden increase in the sale of iPod minis on ebay may be related to the popularity of the newer iPod nano. Many people may have just upgraded to the nano, and are selling their old mini on ebay. That's my theory, and I am sticking to it!

I read this story somewhere else and I thought it was just hype. Then I went to the Virgin Megastore yesterday and this rocker dude asked the guy if they sell iPods. He said "we have the nano" and the guy said his girlfriend specifically asked for a mini and would be mad if he got her a nano. Apparently he looked all over and everyone told him that minis are hard to find/expensive on ebay. It's amazing -- I should have waited to sell mine! Fishes, narco.
