Mattel's Vidster: The camcorder your kids can't have
The Mattel Vidster is a camcorder/digital still camera for kids. It will feed movies to iMovie right out of the box, and iPhoto recognizes it just as easily. Imagine Jr. running around, making his own short movies and taking pictures. Sounds great, right? I think so, too, but for some reason, Mattel doesn't. Julio at the Your Tech Weblog has noticed that it isn't listed on Mattel's product page, though it is mentioned in the press release. Likewise, there is no Mac logo on the packaging, so Mac users may pass it buy. What's behind the omission? I don't know, but I think this would be a killer gift for maybe a 10 or 12 year old. Check it out (if you can).

"Mac users may pass it buy"? Just wanted to point out the Freudian implications ;)

Just won't have all the kid-friendly interface and things like backgrounds, frames, transitions, special effects, etc. The Vidster is still listed on their customer service site and details the specs a little better. Also: 1.3 megapixel still shots, 15fps/320x240 video, no optical zoom, 2x digital zoom. ======================== Vidster Digital Video Camera Product#: J2130 | Released: 2005 | Battery Info: Requires 4 AA | Ages: 8+ Product Description: Capture Life Your Way with the Vidster digital video camera and editing software suite!
