iPodiWay -- Yahoo Maps on Your iPod

Now, I love Google Maps. Since its inception, it's been my default online maps site. I view it as the logical evolution of the industry which started with MapQuest and melded into Yahoo! Maps which gave rise to Google Maps. At various times of my Internet chronology, I've been an enthusiastic user of each.

LifeHacker has given us instructions for putting Google Maps on your iPod Photo and now Yahoo a third-party programmer has answered with a web application that allows you to enter directions between two points, then zips the results into a .zip file for download. All you do then is unzip the file and place the images in your Photos library for it to upload to your iPod. Yahoo This service is being called iPodiWay. It's really not a bad idea.

[Edit: Corrected mistaken Yahoo affiliation].

Any chance - before you get our hopes up with posts like this - that you could remember to make a distinction between services available to the USA (and Canada in this instance) and the 80-odd-% of the rest of the world?

Well, to be honest, that really isn't a very clear statement. First, 'Yahoo Maps' is not the name of this service, it's the name of a Yahoo service (not officially, but it's what people say.) An addition, there is no reason to assume that any software developer would have affiliations with a hardware maker, there is no point in saying anything about Apple.

The statement ought to read "iPodiWay has no affiliations with Yahoo."

This is not offered by Yahoo! Looks like a third party. Clearly states Yahoo! Maps and iPod are not affiliated with this service.

By the way, the tipoff is that a co-branding like this would be headline news.

Well, this has been around for a while now, but you are incorrect in asserting that this is Yahoo's offering -- note the following at the top of the webapge: "Yahoo! Maps and Apple iPod are in no way affiliated with this service." A quick look at the page bottom reveals that "This service was developped (sic) by Cr顴ions Wedoonet for Zap Technologies Inc."

This is not a service of Yahoo. From the top of the page: "Yahoo! Maps and Apple iPod are in no way affiliated with this service."

For the record, this is not from Yahoo. From the site:
"Yahoo! Maps and Apple iPod are in no way affiliated with this service."

Microsoft has its own map site at http://local.live.com/ and I have been loving it. Although you cannot add photos to your ipod using Local Live, they have a new feature known as Bird's Eye View, which is kinda cool.
