More Apple - Intel Ad drama: Intel customers not dull

First we find out that Apple might have copied the new Intel ad from a music video, and now it seems that the ad has miffed Intel. Intel helped Apple with some of the ad, but they weren't consulted on the script for the voice over, in particular the section where Intel chips were described as 'trapped inside PCs--dull little boxes, dutifully performing dull little tasks.' Intel wasn't so thrilled with the characterize of their current customers.

Ahh, irreverent Apple, what will you do next?

The commercial was from the same commercial as the Great Hieghts music video. Loved the spot, very good, goes back to the old days of Apple. I think Intel can do a lot for Mac.

Why has it been lost that Apple criticized Intel chips for years as being inferior to their chips? Even while using all other PC based hardware including SATA, IDE, AGP, USB etc. Now Intel is the best thing ever? I don't buy it and I wouldn't buy a Mac either. Bye Bye Firewire LOL (another great innovation from Apple bites the dust)

How many ways can you shoot a clean room? Both are well shot with a common subject. You might as well compare it to Bjork's "All is Full of Love".

I just wanted to point out regarding this Postal Service thing, that A. I think the theory posted in the comments of the other story was right, that they both licensed a bunch of similar stock footage. Thus the connection is likely indirect.

- BUT just in case it turns out that it's indeed DIRECTLY connected to the Postal Service, let me just say this: -

Apple most assuredly is on good terms with the Postal Service and their label, because for a long time (possibly even today, anyone care to check?) they used "Nothing Better" as one of the set of 50 or so songs that they load onto every Mac and iPod in the Apple Store. (I remember this because I worked there.) You can bet that both entities were happy with the arrangement; TPS gets exposure, Apple gets good music played in their stores. If they wanted to use the footage, Apple would have worked out a mutually agreeable deal, especially when it comes to a band they've worked with before.

So to sum up, no one at Apple would be so dumb as to rip off anything from a band that they've been very friendly with in the past (let alone one so popular among their target market of college-aged hipsters, no insult intended since I am one too).

Insult the competition? GASP! They can't do that!

C''mon, folks, it's a brilliant commercial. The ad runs in the same vein as those classic commercials from '83 and '84 that had a IBM PC next to a stack off manuals with the announcer saying something to the effect of "To run their computer you have to study up on all these technical manuals." Then the commercial cuts to a Mac and the announcer says, "And to run one of our computers, all you need to do is this." Somebody clicks a mouse.

Both commercials put forth the same message - PCs are inferior to Macs - a message that Apple should put forth against their competitors.

As for Intel's PC customers getting upset. WAHH! They're young, they'll get over it.

Remember, our favorite CEO was once photographed flipping off the IBM logo. Putting down the competition is a normal thing.
