Blackberry to offer 'PocketMac for BlackBerry'

Joining Microsoft in the 'we don't want to make a Mac version of this so let's just give someone else's away' school of thought Research in Motion, the makers of Blackberry, will be offering PocketMac for Blackberry as a free download for their customers sometime in February.

PocketMac began life as a third party application, and now Blackberry is licensing the technology to allow Mac users to get addicted to always on email like our Windows friends.

I haven't had any trouble with PocketMac. I use it on my G5 with a Blackbery 7250 with verizon that syncs my iCal and addressbook.
I "paid" for it and have been using it for about 3 months now without a single issue. I guess I have gotten lucky as many people seem to be posting about issues they have.

I've been using PocketMac for a year with three different Blackberry's (don't ask). Its always been rock solid. Way more solid than a Treo

PocketMac really is awsome. What helped stability for me, was when I switched from Entourage to Mail.app, Stickies, iCal and Address book. (I wanted Spotlight features NOW!).

That said... I can't wait for MS to drop the update to Entourage with Spotlight features, I may just have to re-sync back to that with PocketMac.

Reliability is a problem with PocketMac. Maybe the developer will have access to RIM's secrets and make a better product.

After going through 3 Treos, I really would like a Blackberry. But the fact that they didn't work with Mac made me hold off. Now I can't wait!

I wish someone would do this for Salesforce.com

How bad are the bugs? Is it worth switching from my Treo to a Blackberry? (The Missing Sync has been causin a lot of problems recently and I also want to switch to T-Mobile, but it doesn't have Treos.)

Whenever The Big Bad Corporation makes a product that squeezes out a small shop's competing product (*cough*knofabulator*cough*), everyone is overcome with feelings of impending doom and the sun fails to shine.

In this context, the 'we don't want to make a Mac version of this so let's just give someone else's away' school of thought is not really a bad thing. Is it?

Great, they do this after I pay for it. Of course, I find this product to have a lot of bugs, not sure how I feel about RIM putting their name on it, Of course it's better than nothing though...

They're giving it away? So much are they going to pay me to use it? They would have to. I've had so many problems with "PocketMac" and the Blackberry that I finally resurrected my old Sony Clie and picked up a copy of Missing Sync to keep my home and office systems in sync.
