Newsfire first Univeral newsreader?
NewsFire 1.3
(Beta) is an Universal application, so if you are running an Intel
Mac and can't stand the thought of your newsreader wasting away in Rosetta, why NewsFire might be just what the doctor ordered. NewsFire earns my reward for the
most visually impressive of all newsreaders on the Mac. NewsFire doesn't really fit into my work flow but that doesn't
mean it won't be right for you.NewsFire costs €15.99 for a single user license.

If you're still on the fence as to which newsreader is the best for Mac, do not overlook Shrook:
http://www.utsire.com/shrook/
Shrook uses what they call distributed checking (http://www.utsire.com/shrook/distfaq.php) which "oordinates the checking activity of multiple copies of Shrook subscribed to the same channel. This can keep each copy of Shrook updated within minutes of the channel itself updating, amongst other benefits."
I personally cannot deal with NetNewsWires limit to check sites only every 30 mins.
I bought NetNewsWire as a bundle with MarsEdit awhile back. After using NetNewsWire for a couple of days I couldn't take it anymore and shelled out the mad scratch so I could go back to my Newsfire. Like all things Mac... it just works, and it works the way I want it to.
MarsEdit is the kat's meow for blog posting so I don't mind giving http://ranchero.com/ the extra money for NetNewsWire cuz the make great crap. If they are reading this though please note: Apply the money I spent on NetNewsWire to your MarsEdit team as they are the one's that earned it and then some.
meh, I used to use NewsFire but when it went $$$ I bailed. I never liked 3 pain readers (NetNewsWire etc) so NewsFire's 2 column look worked well.
But now I am addicted to Safari RSS (one drop down folder from my bookmarks bar), especially now that it syncs what I've already read between my two computers using .Mac sync!
Newsfire is hands down the best RSS newsreader available for OS X. I know there are a lot of Netnewswire people out there in TUAW land but it doesn't match the sheer beauty and simplicity of newsfire. Dave has some of the best OS X applications available such as Acquisition and Inquisitor. I highly suggest everyone check his stuff out. Oh and it's also cool that it is a Un-Bin.
./ Did I mention newsfire rocks?
Or run RSS Menu (also universal for a few weeks now), and have all of your feeds a click away.

It's the most elegant and simple of all, and the one that reflects more how a Mac app should be. It's also fully integrated with Spotlight and Growl, which is great. And it's even greater now that it's a UB, I'm glad that it'll work natively on my future iMac :)
