TUAW reader John Gaskell, whose rig we featured last week, noticed that, once again, the eMac has disappeared from both the online Apple Store as well as their edu store. Further, while I haven't seen the eMac product page in a while, I thought it used to live at apple.com/emac, while it actually lives at apple.com/education/emac/, with plenty of "just for education" blurbs all over the page. I can't even find the eMac at the edu store in a search, which leads me to think it's probably only available by phone order now. I wonder if all this positive growth Apple is experiencing has allowed them to shuffle the eMac back into its original education slot in the Mac lineup.

There's plenty of them at the design school at my university. If they disappear from the Mac line-up I'm not sure what the upgrade path will be... Maybe minis with seperate monitors?
Another interesting thing to note on the product page you linked to is the eMac boasts "iLife ’05 — which includes the latest versions of iMovie HD, iPhoto, iTunes, GarageBand, and iDVD"... Er, wrong! Could this finally be its end?

It's still in the departmental educational store. Looks like only schools can buy this bad boy now.

I worked at an Apple store for 2 years, and sold a ton of eMacs in that time. When Apple decided to remove them from our stock, we had already noticed that their sales had tapered off after the introduction of the Mac mini.
I still think the eMac is a great machine. It wasn't the fastest thing in any regards, but they're built like effing tanks. We used to stack them like stairs to get to stock high up in the Back of House area.
The thing I didn't miss, however, was getting one of those damn 50lb eMac boxes into the back seat of a two door car.

Had an eMac once, very nice machine and built like a tank. Very affordable at the time as well. But the monitor went out not once, but twice! After the second time I was still able to use it with the vga out adapter (they wanted almost $400 to repair it, out of warranty)and finally traded it when I got a powerbook. Good for educational settings, but the Mac mini has really replaced it in homes.

Yep, they are built like a tank but I love my machine and it has served me well so far and at the time they were absolutely value for money especially after the edu discount.
