Most powerful warship ever...with iPod
I stand
corrected. About a week ago, I said that the solar-powered, iPod charging golf bag from Soldius
was the most over-the-top iPod "accessory" yet. Boy, was I wrong.Check out the HMS Daring, the most powerful warship ever constructed. The first of the Royal Navy's Type 45 Destroyers features a missile system that can detect and destroy a baseball-sized (approximately) object traveling at three times the speed of sound, 14 decks, the latest in high tech weaponry...and iPod charging stations in each crew cabin. All that for only £605 million.
I can almost hear the cries now, "Damn the torpedoes, men, it's new music Tuesday!"

True, but I think that an Iowa Class Battleship and an 8000 tonne Destroyer are not in the same class. Find me a Destroyer that has more punch than the T45, then I will surrender. :-)

Maybe with the help of a Type 45 Destroyer we could "persuade" Steve Jobs to give us Brits more video content on iTMS...... :)

Well the current Destroyers (Type 42) have around One 115v 60Hz round pin per 20 or 30 men/women. And considering that in the UK we use 230v 50Hz with square pins it a right pain in back side considering the number of mobiles, iPods and laptops that the guys and girls spend their money on.
You'd also be amazed how much store is placed on being Pink and fluffy nowadays! If these things do get iPod connectors (used daily) it will be at the expensive of real warship kit (used once every ten years - and the next war's not due until 2013ish.)

Haha -- a "missile system that can detect and destroy a baseball-sized object traveling at three times the speed of sound."
How do you test something like that?
I once toured the USS Blueback, the sub that did the "emergency blow" in Hunt for Red October. I came out of that and was like "I gotta get one of these..."
Eventually we're going to get so an individual, self-contained gun is so bad-ass that each ship will only need one of 'em.

I'm betting the boys on America's nuclear carriers might raise issue with a little destroyer being called the most powerful warship ever...

Nothing against the Type 45, but a couple wings of Super Hornets is pretty formidable, compared to a few ship-launched Harpoons!

Chris, i think it means by firepower. This ship is meant to be a support ship for the UK's new super aircraft carriers. It's radar system was recently tested and could pick up all airtraffic across western and eastern europe without any help from conventional base stations monitoring europe. The thing packs a punch too.

Hey, The Aircraft carrier is only powerful coz it carries Aeroplanes. The Ship itself is just a big expensive mobile runway. So yes, the T45 IS the most powerful Warship ever. ( in its class )
ps. UK Rules!

Actually, the Nimitz carriers carry quite a bit of sel-defense weaponry, including anti-ship missiles.
But if you want to play that game, there are tons of cruisers and submarines that would be more than a match for the Type 45. Iowa class battleships, for example. :)
Besides, the Type 45 derives much of its power from its helipad.
The Type 45 is an excellent ship in its class, but it is not the most powerful ship on the sea, nor was it intended to be.
