Logic Pro goes Universal
That's
right, kids, Apple's first Pro app to go Universal is Logic 7.2 (which is now available). There is a $49 crossgrade
available for everyone who shelled out the big bucks for Logic Pro 7, but if you are using 5 or 6 you'll have to pony
up $299 to able to run Logic on that new Intel Mac of yours.Apple even offers up some top ten reasons for upgrading to 7.2, they include:
- New royalty-free jingles and sound effects Apple Loops (the same ones that come with iLife '06)
- Universalness
- lots of other audio goodness that I know nothing about

Update: If you are looking for more indepth information about this upgrade (and from someone who knows a thing or two about audio) check out Create Digital Music's coverage.

February 04 2006 at 3:07 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThanks, Scott! A commenter on my site reports delivery has been pushed back, so you may have to wait until after Valentine's Day for your 7.2 update to arrive (for Pro; not sure about Express -- and divining Apple estimated ship dates can be tricky). Of course, I'm probably supposed to be thinking about something other than ReWire routing around Valentine's Day, huh?

February 03 2006 at 2:55 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOnly two little caveats:
1. You're out of luck if your using Pro Tools 6.9 or earlier and Logic as your front end (small group of people, yes)
2. You'll need to update effects for the Intel Mac, and these developers were expecting this would come out in March, not February.
But otherwise, great news -- and lots of other cool features in Logic 7, like ducking (automatically reducing the level of music under voice, from GarageBand 3), native AAC support for compressed audio files, and lots of other improvements. Also, Logic Express will get the Intel treatment.

This is cool... I'm glad I didn't pay the $20 for the 7.1 update.
