We've known Apple's planning a special media event for a week or so, but didn't know the precise date or what would be announced. On Flickr today, someone has posted up what claims to be an image used on the event invitation. It is quite clearly an Airport Express Base Station. Might this be the long-rumored update to the Airport Express to allow streaming video?
Thanks to everyone who submitted this tip.
Update: TUAW has no confirmation whatsoever that: 1) anything will be announced or released on Feb. 22nd, 2) that it will be an Airport Express, iPod, mystery-doodad, or 3) anything Apple-related at all will happen on Feb. 22nd. This link and date were submitted as a tip and is treated as a rumor. This post is even clearly classified in the rumor category. TUAW is not responsible for your level of disappointment or inability to reconcile reality with your expectations. Have a nice day.

hmm.. sounds interesting.
Would they hold a special event just for an update to airtunes? I think this is unlikely, there must be more to it.. Apple DVR anyone? Or maybe Mac mini 2...

Or it could be that they'll be offering Disney/Pixar movies via iTunes and you'll be able to play it on your TV from your computer via AirTunes/Video or whatever they'll call it.
Mmm...Mergers.

[Update - We’re now pretty sure this is fake. If you know different, then tell us.]

OR you can look at the text and how it's off perspective with the logo and the edge of the device. Plus the LED/button thingy just looks off. I say, people need to find better things to do with their free time than photoshopping fakes.

um. quite clearly photoshopped. a stock APE image with Myriad text. Apple would do better than that. you know, like lining the text up to a grid. like they always do. They're king of attention-to-detail, especially in prrint and web design. This 30 second mockup wouldn't get past 1st stage in that corporation.

I'm guessing that this isn't photoshopped, and that Apple is planning on announcing some type of AirportAV or something to that extent. But, I don't think that would be all, and we would have some kind of "One More Thing..." At the end..... Possibly the MacTab Pro as we've been seeing patents for.....

Double shenanigans.
For one thing, the font used is Myriad, and not Myriad Pro (notice the 'i').

Apple would *never* allow such a crappy photo (With a crooked apple logo, mind you) to be used on an invitation like this.

It's a custom version of myriad (Apple Myriad). Just like Apple Garamond is custom.

Plus it looked a bit too "X-Box 360'ish" with the big flourogreen circle.

Just to clarify: Is it just the invitation that is fake? In other words, is the February 22nd special event itself confirmed or unconfirmed?

How did this get published as fact on other blogs? It's pretty obvious that it's a rumor and or probably fake.
