Apple to iPod nano service providers: Fix cracked screens
Apple has stepped up to the plate regarding cracked screens
on iPod nano's. Here at TUAW Jan
reported on the screen cracking issues back in September of last year. If you have a 5G iPod and not a nano, hardware failure such as cracked screens
should be covered if you are under warranty. Now it seems Apple will replace the screens free of charge on the iPod
nano's on a case by case basis. This repair coverage should be taken care of at both Apple stores and Apple certified service providers. Let us know if you hear otherwise!

any suggestions??
I sent my ipod nano back for warranty repairs. it was sent back to me 4 days later stating that the screen is cracked due to accident and therefore is not warrantied. I called Apple and the tech services guy would not budge and basically said tough. The nano has never been out of a rubber case and looks in mint condition. Not sure if was dropped or not cause my daughter took it to school. Not sure what to do now.
February 27 2006 at 6:38 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy nano fell out of my pocket while bike riding it was in a rubber protector the screen cracked I sent the nano in for warranty repair they declined the repair I called apple and they informed me that it should have been replaced they ordered the replacement on the spot an apologized for the inconvenience.
Thank's Apple
I recently found a small hairline crack on the outside of my black iPod nano's screen. The crack was visually noticeable and could be felt by running a finger nail over the screen.
While in Chicago, I took my 3 month old iPod nano to the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue, and had an Apple Genius look at it. After inspecting the crack they agreed with me that the crack was noticable, but since it was on the outside of the clear nano's plastic screen it did not affect the playback ability of the nano.
They declared they would not service my nano, or replace it. The crack was interpreted as "cosmetic" and from my normal wear and tear. According to the genius I spoke with, Apple will only replace/repair nano's that have damage to the LCD and not to the plastic of the iPod's screen.
Thanks for telling the truth about what happened, Jeff. Many people misrepresent contibutory negligence and claim it is the fault of the manufacturer when they have a mishap with a product. Gives the manufacturer a worse reputation than is deserved.
So, far, I've no problems with my 5g iPod, acquired soon after release. In fact, I still have the protective film on it. The back looks picture perfect, too.
I broke my nano's screen while painting my house (had it in my back pocket -- nothing unusual). Filed a warranty request on Apple's site on Monday. Received a package with a mailing label on Tuesday. Sent the Nano in for repair on Wednesday. Apple received my package on Thursday. Apple sent me a brand new Nano on Friday via overnight "Saturday" delivery!
I was shocked, and very pleased with the service!

Yes as I mentioned in the post, they will fix iPod 5G's.
cheers,

Fabienne, I usually don't like pointing out this type of thing, but apostrophes shouldn't be used for plural nouns, so the sentence should read "iPod nanos' not "iPod nano's".
