My swanky Vaja iPod case

Back in December, I used some of my Christmas money to order an iPod case from Vaja, and today it finally arrived. I now believe in love at first sight.

It comes nicely packaged with some propaganda (flyers, stickers, etc.) that my 2 year old immediately claimed. I went with a hunter green for the front and a dark brown for the back, but there are literally dozens of color combinations available to choose from. The rear of the case is quite firm, with the logo printed on the interior. The front is soft but not squishy, and the iPod fits in beautifully. The hold button and headphone jack are exposed, as is the port on the bottom, so charging via the cable is no problem (though it won't fit in a dock while inside the case).

There's both a screen protector and a click wheel protector (the click wheel protector is optional) that a scratch-o-phobe like me appreciates. The wheel protector does require me to press a little more firmly on the click wheel itself, but not so much that it's a nuisance.

There are two styles of beltclip available, but I opted for no clip. I'm just as happy keeping it in a pocket, and it's now so well protected, that I don't have to worry about damaging it.

Overall, I really love it. The leather is quite nice, the construction is very good (it should be, it took 29 days), the fit is fantastic and the peace of mind that I won't scratch the daylights out of the screen is nice, too (especially when I try to resell it a few years from now). On the downside, I can't connect it to the Universal Dock or my Griffin RoadTrip while in the case, but I'm willing to live with that.

The Vaja i-Volution starts at $70US. More pictures after the jump.

I wont cover up my obvious bitterness, but i am a little confused.

If the hot case protects the hotter iPod, what protects the hot case?

More of a riddle, than a question actually...

I would love one of these Vaja cases for overall protection.

As for hiding the beauty that is iPod, I guess you could get a clear iSkin or DLO to protect it, but even they have their way of letting dirt under the skin and causing minor abrasions.

Personally, I would rather have a nice case keeping scratches from ruining the iPod's look. Plus, something with a little padding would help if you ever dropped it.

I have a Vaja case for my mini and it has paid for itself. One accidental drop on concrete while checking out of a hotel... It scuffed up the corner of the leather case a little but, but otherwise, everything was in tact. Without the case, I'm sure there would have been some serious damage.

I've had a Vaja for my 3G since I first got my iPod. It's two-toned and beautiful. Just bought my wife a Nano and suggested that my mother-in-law give her a gift cert from Vaja, which she did.

They don't make it clear that they are in Argentina so when I bought my first one and found that shipping was about $25 I almost canceled. I don't know if they now ship for the US.

i like that it's handcrafted, i don't like that it's leather.

I don't get it: why would you want to hide a beautiful thing like the ipod? If the answer is concerning scratches I still don't get it. Everything in the world gets dents and scratches, that's just the way it is, and why that is a bad thing is beyond me. It's not affecting sound quality or functionality. Putting a condom on your ipod to protect it's looks actually prevents you from admiring those looks. Unless you often drop stuff on a concrete floor there's nothing to protect the iPod from. Is it vanity? Is it for the same reasons that some people sit in plastic wrapped sofas? Is it resell value protection? My iPod works fine with the patina of 18 months of use without any scratch protection, and it definitely looks cooler "naked" as concieved by it's creator, mildly scarred and personal.

I have a vaja for my 4G. I love it. It may be a little pricy, but well worth it. It has saved my $400 investment several times.
