Top contributors to the Webkit Open Source Project get MacBook Pros

The WebKit Open Source Project is the open source component of WebKit (which powers Safari and is available for developers to access with their applications). It seems that lots of non-Apple programmers have been chipping in to do a number of things, including fixing bugs and what have you.
Normally an open source volunteer is 'paid' with experience and the knowledge that she is helping out with a cool project. However, this time around Apple is giving the top twelve contributors to the project a brand new MacBook Pro, and five of them are going to attend WWDC (on Apple).
Very cool, Apple. Now, when are you going to start handing out MacBook Pros to bloggers?

This is a great way to reward people for their hard work, sucks to be contributor #13.

Apple aren't the only ones giving away Macbooks - a new Open Source company called SourceSense are offering a Macbook as a prize in a competition to design their logo: http://www.sourcesense.com/contest/

I love TUAW, I read it many times per day, I value the news and commentary. But guys, come on, this is not a good first line of a post:
"The WebKit Open Source Project is the open source component of WebKit..."
Really? Is Apple Computer the computer division of Apple, Inc? Is the WorldWideDeveloper'sConference the annual conference for developers, world-wide?

Not my best sentence ever, but a little repetition never hurt anyone. Never hurt anyone, I say!

No, Edmund, Apple Computer is NOT the computer division of Apple, Inc.
Apple Computer, Inc. of Cupertino, California makes computers (Macintosh), peripherals for those computers (iPod, iSight), software to run on those computers (iLife, Final Cut Pro), and services to customers of those products (.mac, iTunes Music Store).

Clearly this is a big (and therefore evil) corporation getting their hands dirty ruining the lives of unsuspecting coders. I mean, these guys (and gals) were probably plenty happy with those Compaq's from 1999. Shame on you Apple. There was a time when contributing code was merely a thankless, lonely job. One more victory for "the man."

#7: i was just making a point. it doesn't matter about Apple Computer or Apple Inc; all that matters is the construction of the sentence. Scott got it, and commented; why did you comment?
