More iPod video mock-ups surface

Adding more fuel to the rumor-fire that is the new video iPod ThinkSecret rumored yesterday, someone calling themselves "bud62" (probably not affiliated with Apple in any way) posted new mock-up images today.
All I have to say is that this is a very sexy looking prototype! Even if this doesn't end up being a new iPod, it definitely should in my book.

That's preatty cool as a new iPod and all, but imagine it as not only a new iPod but also, as a new remote for your Mac Media Center. With this device, if it only had wi-fi or bluetooth, and the touchscreen it would be the perfect remote for the MacHTPC. As you enter your home it asks if you want to use it as ipod or media remote. If you choose remote, the screen changes to the remote UI. Now controll all your media stored in your HTMAC and have your information iPod style.....
OK enought tripping I WANT ONE.....
PS: BTW, can a brazilian enter the Feb 22 contest?
This is nothing more than a mockup/design that someone was trying out their photochop skills on.
Jobs said it himself about the current iPod w/Video. "This is not a Video iPod" (or something like to that sort). That should tell you something right there! The true video iPod that comes out will not be the current form/size at all! There is no public desire to have such a small screen and trying to watch your movies/videos/etc. on it. Just look at all the current PMP's out there. Those screen are more usable than an iPod turned sideways for watching movies.
Usability is a HUGE thing for Apple. An ipod turned on it's side to watch a movie is not much better than the current model. Therefore it's usability still sucks. Not something Apple is willing to gamble with. Just my .02 cents
I think the design is great. Wonder if the weight is the same as the Gen 5 iPod. No matter what size the screen is, you will get smudges and scratches.Unless, of course you keep the plastic sticker over it.

If you think about it, there are products out there with touch screens that are very durable. Think about a palm lifedrive, palm treo 650, or the Tom Tom gps units. I have one of each of these and they all use a touch screen. I have a screen protector on my treo but not on the other two. Scratching isn't a big problem. The makeup of a touchscreen is softer, not like the screen on the current ipods which are some type of plastic........ If you just threw the unit into your bookbag or something, it would be easy to damage it but if you had some sort of case, it should be protected. Just my thoughts. John

The so-called "universal dock" would only work if this new "WidePod" would fit in it the traditional way, vertically--as in, the thin end down. But how do you watch your widescreen movies with it docked? Turn your head sideways? Sure, Apple could just turn around and sell ANOTHER dock that would allow for the WidePod to be docked horizontally (wide side down) but that, I think even Apple would agree, would be pretty damn lame.
I also would like to second the observations that a touchscreen with a virtual clickwheel on it would bring mad-smudges. We humans have serious greasy fingers and if this thing actually gets released we'd all have seriously greasy ipods. Perhaps a stylus like the DS would help, but I doubt it since who wants to pull out a stylus every time you want to skip a track or turn up the volume? I'd believe in the touchscreen theory, however, if the clickwheel concept didn't require constant rubbing of your thumb on the screen--imagine the thick, permanent, circle-shaked streak!
I know that Jobs likes to make obsolete one model of iPod within minutes of releasing it, but I do think releasing a 6g within 6 months of the 5g would probably be bad for business--just a guess.
And lastly, I'd be pretty mad at Apple if they released it so soon--it took some serious skill in the dark arts for me to conjur the cash to buy a 5g. I think I better start putting together my voodoo doll of Steve Jobs made from Lego and chicken feathers right now...
This is a fake, for a couple reasons.
1. The light shine is taken directly from the 5G pics, and doesn't work.
2. The progress bar is too blue, and too glossy.
3. The plus button makes no sense (actually, this is something that could make it more genuine, but no), and has blurry edges.
4. Like was stated, the play/pause is off center.
Fake

There is no need to have a touch sensitive screen when you can have a motion sensitve iPod.
You hold the iPod in your hand, press a button on the side, the scroll wheel and menu is displayed and the motion control is enabled. Then you get to choose by tilting the iPod. When you've come to the command you want, you just release the button and voilá.
I suppose it could have a sliding button. Up/yes - down/no/retract.
Oh (people who are at) apple,
Please make this wonderful gadget a reality... I know you can do it...
1. Touchscreen iPod.
2. You've seen the new Nintendo DS Lite?
3. Will Apple and Nintendo merge, or just continue
their bizarre parallel evolution?
