6G iPod pics (aka Photoshop is fun!)

Reader, bl8ant writes in with this email: "6gen ipod images? hi, dont know if they are real or where they came from (other than on a server connected to a computer at a desk at a certain company that i'm freelancing at), but i can't find this version anywhere on the web, so who knows? anyway, it's a cool idea, real or not. where can i email or upload them to you at? they're 2 jpegs, low res. —bl8ant" So, I emailed him with our address and he sent in the pic here and the second one that can be found after the jump in this post.
They look real to me. Real fake that is. Still cool look and concept, but imagine the lawsuits and scratching complaints that would arise if Apple really did go this route... I'd still probably buy one, but as you know by now, I'll buy anything.

its a muc better idea then having the wheel in the screen, imagine the finger prints on that baby.

The photo's EXIF data says that "Photoshop CS2" is the creator. This validates their fakeness.

so do you look at the screen and fumble with the control on the opposite side or do you turn the unit over and not be able to look at the screen? looks pretty ignorant to me (though I don't really disagree with comment 1 about the virtual screen). obviously it is a fake, but it is fun to look at and I am sure it was fun to make. hopefully we will be able to see the real thing soon...

Worst. Fake. Ever. :)
I think a scroll wheel on the back would be pretty easy to use. You really don't need to see it to use it, and you just use your index finger for the select button rather than your thumb. I like the idea.

I say wireless BT remote. It has a scroll wheel and it looks like the mac media remote. It slides into the side of the ipod when not in use. It will suck because the battery life will be short and the batteries will be like 2.99 a pop.

Perspective of the scroll wheel is off. It is a rather poorly executed Photoshop job.

#6 - that means the ipod would have to be in one hand, and the remote the other. two hand operated portable media player? bleh.

#10... Poorly, but it does say 90GB. Now THAT, my friends, would be interesting.
And... um... have you noticed the Click Wheel is in.. a really... awkward... position... the MENU button is to the right?

Is it just me or is this job listing for a QA engineer a bit odd. Why include the word White Box iPod? Is this referring to the iPod Boom Box, Tablet or...?

Here is a link to a snapshot of the job description since I'm not sure that URL above is working.

Even though that's pretty obvious fakery, the concept has made sense to me for a while. The fingerprint problem seems like a killer for a touchscreen video player. However, if you put the controls on the back, then show a video overlay of them when they're in use (as if you were "looking through" the player at the back side of the controls), that would solve the fingerprint problem AND preserve the tactile feedback.

I'm pretty sure any "video" iPod will have a different form factor and won't actually be a 6th Gen, it will be sold along side the current models. I would hope so anyway.
