There are also custom plugins available for Quartz Composer. You can play a sound file (mov, mp3, stream, podcast) or control iTunes (previously impossible). Check it out:

Check out SteamSHIFT's site http://blogs.the-ocean.co.uk/~default

He does a ton of live visuals for us (Southampton band Gojira.co.uk) using Quartz Composer and posts a lot of his explorations up on his blog. Definately worth checking out..

Wow. I just started playing around with that two days ago. I made a nifty audio reactive screen saver with it. I love having a built in mic :)

Since any quark composition can be used directly as a screensaver (just put it in the folder), why can't you do the same to use them as visualizers for iTunes. Surely one could have better visualizers than the crappy default iTunes ones.

I wrote a step-by-step tutorial to show off the power of the awesome 'Replicate in Time' feature at http://flow.la-va.org/?p=135.

Yay
for spreading Quartz Composer loveliness!

After you create a nice effect you can use it with my
application webcamtweaker:
http://www.tweakersoft.com/webcamtweaker.html

It
is similar to photobooth but records movies too and load
user generated composition.

Here is a link to a guide to create your own effects using Quartz Composer.

For those that don't have this installed, pull out your Tiger DVD and open the Xcode Tools folder, and run XcodeTools.mpkg inside.
