Ministack V2 available

NewerTechnology's Ministack V2 is now shipping. This is the second iteration of their Mac mini complement Firewire/USB hub and external drive. You can get from from 80 ($135.99) to 500 gig ($449.99) configurations or for $80 you can add your own hard drive. The best part is that this unit has a Firewire and USB port on the side, so you need not reach around to the back for all your plugging needs.

It's $79.95 for the no-hard-drive version, not $69. NewerTech was slow in updating their website.

compliment =! complement.
here's the easy mnemonic: a compl-I-ment is something "I" pay to someone else. a compl-E-ment is something that compl-E-tes someTHING else.
nitpick over, carry on....

I recently purchased one of the first generation machines, and while it's nice that they put some ports on the side with the second gens, it's pretty easy to access all the ports on the older units if you turn them 90 degrees.
The only drawback is, of course, that the rat's nest of cables is more visible this way, but I decided to choose functionality over form.

No 3: "=!" != "!="

Putting some ports on the side seems like a really half-assed solution.
Put one FW and one USB port on the front of the unit, and then I'll buy one.
There's a lot of people (like me) who bought a Mini to slot into a small space, and hove no access to the sides and no easy access to the back. Ports on the front would be a godsend. Because nobody is doing HD units with front-facing ports, I'm stuck with the Griffin FW hub instead as the only method of getting accessible ports. Shame, as I'd gladly pay for the extra HD space ...

$79 is pretty sweet for the no-drive version. If I had a mini, I'd be all over this in a heartbeat. I'll stroke Costco's ego once again and mention that there's a 400 gig Maxtor drive there for like $209 after an instant rebate, but it's SATA and so don't think it'll work. But for the DIYers out there, this thing seems like an amazing deal.
