Flickr Find: iPod nano desk dock

Flickr user Simple Simon needed a dock for his iPod and he thought: why not drill a hole in my desk and use one of the plastic dock adapters that Apple includes with my iPod to make my own?
A drill, some resin, and a few hours later, he did. Take a look at the full set.

That is a brilliant idea, looks really neat!
Hope he doesn't re-arrange the desk too often though!

At first glance I thought "good idea" but then looking at the photo's I see that all is not so simple. Grinding was necessary not only for the plastic iPod insert but the dock lead itself - a horribly expensive wire to replace for all that it is. Ouch.
Nice idea though.

philip: me too!
I actually plan on doing that when I get another desk.

I'm not even sure this is a safe idea either, bump your dock while the iPod is in it, no big deal. Bump into this, spill something, etc etc ,with the iPod in it, you could be looking at trouble. I would still like to see an accessory maker come out and make either a 3.5 or 5.25 inch drive bay slide in iPod dock. I'd buy one.

This is great. Gives me some ideas for homebrew docks. Maybe something in a big block of wood or something.

I could see doing this with a Mac Mini... Mount it with the disc drive facing up, right in the center of the desk, it would look pretty neat.
