More New iPod Video Pictures

Despite the disappointment from Apple's Special Event on Feb. 28th, the rumors of a new video iPod persist. MacShrine has some relatively believable pictures posted today and claims that this new video iPod will be called the iPod AV and will be released as part of an event celebrating Apple's 30th anniversary.
However, this could just be another fake. Let the debunking (and snarky comments) begin!
Note: MacShrine seems to have either gone under due to the influx of traffic or because someone high up pulled the legal shotgun. There is a mirror here. Also, the picture above was cropped and resized to fit TUAW's guidlines, but otherwise has not been modified.

fake, apple wont make a touch screen ipod, with a screen this big, they get enough crap for scratches on current screens, why would they make it worse?

Liam they can make scratch proof stuff, sony do it on a lot of phones they work really well if they make it expensive and use the right material they can pull it off. Something tough.

Apple wouldn't make the scroll wheel that "grey", with that bad a gradient. Plus, the reflection on the one in the dock is fake. These are easy to recreate.

If this is real, and if it has a good battery life and some clever way to prevent sratches and greasy fingers i'll buy one in a shot.
It's shiny :-D

Notice the hold button on the side. I dont believe if apple was to make a device that you would view in landscape mode and put the hold on the side??? They youl put it on the top along the headphone port.

Yeah, I find it hard to believe that Ice Age 2 would be loaded on to a prototype product as well

If it is fake, it's pretty good. I don;t see anything wrong with the gradient used for the click wheel in that last photo, and they did find a good way to display info when it is used in any dockable product.
About the reality of a touch-screen iPod at all - as I stated way back when, if they could engineer a plastic screen to use the same electrical conduction properties that touchpads and clickwheels use, then you could use all the same case materials as you could that current cases use (the ones that protect the click wheel, that is). It wouldn't be using a screen that PDAs use, one that is purely touch+location based, with a soft polymer overlay. Plus, add an extremely light matte texture to the entire screen and scratches wouldn't be nearly as noticeable.
While these images may not be "it", with all the buzz and patents going around it's definitely in the works - or at least something like it.

Oops - I wrote: "then you could use all the same case materials as you could that current cases use (the ones that protect the click wheel, that is)."
When I said "cases" I meant third-party protective cases which would protect the thing from scratches. Since there are plenty of cases and materials out that protect the click wheel from scratches, if the ENTIRE iPod was in essence one big click wheel, any of the materials currently used would protect it. At least the clear ones! =)

Also, about the hold switch. Say apple through a gyro meter in there, like many DSLRs have, that automatically rotate the display depending on how you were holding it. If you were listening to music, you'd hold it as you do a current iPod, in portrait orientation - so the Hold location would be fine. If you rotated it to watch videos, the display would rotate too. So the hold switch would be on the side - don't think that's too big of a deal, as it remains an iPod product overall - Hold switch on top when using it for music, it's original purpose.

this is a fake it was made the way the other fake was but this time by making a new box for the display instead of cloning the old one.

I don't know if this has any relavence whatsoever but my girlfriend recently had the screen on her new iPod break. After contacting Apple, they gave her a coupon good for $100 off to help her get a new one. That coupon happens to expire on April 1st, the date stated as the release of this new iPod. Take it as you will........

Not only does it look just like the other fake iPod, the hold button is on the side, and it's playing Ice Age. Ice Age?

Also, it would probably never fit into the Dock slot on the iPod Hi-Fi, as shown.

I'll believe it when I see a picture of the back. If these people really had a real iPod they'd take a picture of the info in the back. This is just common sense!!

"Also, it would probably never fit into the Dock slot on the iPod Hi-Fi, as shown."
If this is the iPod Video, it would come with a dock adapter, so it is possible. Size-wise, if you took a current 5G iPod and made the entire face into a screen, then it would fit within the Hi-Fi dock.
From ThinkSecret's report:
"Apple's forthcoming "true" video iPod will feature a 4-inch display with a quarter-inch border, allowing the device to maintain dimensions typical of previous iPods, further sources have confirmed."
