Fake Patrol: the iGame
Behold, the world of tomorrow! Or maybe not. We've
been getting a few tips in today about a blog post over on Station A that supposedly reveals the next big thing from
Apple: the iGame. It looks like the bastard child of a Gameboy and iPod. Seriously, would Apple make something so ugly? Maybe all bets are off since the HiFi but still... I don't believe it. I seriously doubt Apple would 1) announce anything in Electronic Gaming Monthly (have you seen the offenses to graphic design in that magazine?), or 2) risk the obvious comparisons to their previous attempts at a game machine, the Pippin.
Perhaps the deal breaker on this one, despite the pleas of "this is not a fake" from the author, are his initials: AH. We can clearly deduce this is Alvar Hanso. You do not want to trust that guy. What do y'all think? Fake or real? Or would you even buy such a beast?

No way. Look at those buttons. How'd it feel to keep pressing and pressing them? Apple wouldn't release this kind of crap...

I know there's no need to say this, bu: FAKE!!! too crappy looking for something to come from apple ',: |
I dunno... if Hanso said it, it must be true. listen to him, or you'll be stuck in a hatch for like 4 years.

I mean, they both seem devoted to crazy designs that have a wide appeal. Am I the only one who thinks that'd be a match made in heaven?

In the past we've seen things such as "A New Version of Wind Waker with Twilight Princess Graphics is coming out!" as well as "You can unlock Sonic and Tails in Super Smasj Bros. Melee!".
It's alright, it's just their joke, and they're playing off the recent hype. Smart idea though.
It's an obvious fake. Notice the remote connector by the headphone port at the bottom.... and why is the headphone port on the bottom?!
Old Apple logo style, ugly D-pad, akward arrangement of 3G iPod button ..... duh, it's fake.
Little known fact: Nintendo's got a patent on the D-Pad we've all come to known in love from the NES and Super Nintendo days. That's why the Sega, Sony, and Microsoft consoles all have slightly different versions. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time Apple broke a copyright in the iPod design >_

But the idea of Apple making an iPod with built-in gaming features is not so bad... Just picture it: the iPod's one of the most popular brands in the world. And if Apple were to make it a portable gaming console, it could easily compete with Nintendo's DS and Sony's PSP. Even the developers would be stupid if they were not to support it.
Apple would never:
1. Give a gaming magazine an exclusive on an announcement
2. Announce a product in May that will be delivered sometime in the winter
It's part of their April issue which has the occassional joke inside.
" AH. We can clearly deduce this is Alvar Hanso. You do not want to trust that guy. What do y'all think? Fake or real? "
Are you saying all I can handle is releasing smoke monsters and maintaining polar bears on tropical islands? How insulting. ;)
Anyway, yea it would seem that this is an EGM April Fools Day joke. Of course this morning when my friend passed me a half scan of this article he didn't know what issue it came from. So I ran out and plunked down $6 for a magazine I don't read only to find out the article wasn't in that issue. (I am convinced this is why they wrap magazines in plastic, so you can't see the crap you are about to buy).
This afternoon the same guy was able to get his hands on the April issue, I verified the article actually does exist, only to come to find out that the editors over at EGM play an April's Fool joke every year. All the cracks in the idea that Apple would actually release a portable video game system became chasms at that point.
But a cool article nonetheless, and further proof that Apple is on everybody's mind, even if it is the gamer community who historically are not Mac friendly.
Good stuff.
Now back to the island.
