Well I think I found one of the reasons why no one replied to
my recent plea for help
with my PowerLogix card. It seems that PowerLogix has
just been acquired by OWC. Other World Computing is a company that
sells a mix of its own gear and third party hardware (including PowerLogix and other manufacturers). OWC will
acquire the "exclusive rights to all PowerLogix proprietary hardware designs and software
code, as well as copyrights, logos, brand names, and web domains." I hope that this means older PowerLogix hardware will continue to be supported after the buy out, if not I am really out of luck.

I see this as a "good thing". I've had nothing but excellent product purchase and support with them. Even in the days where Apple was in the "downward spiral of death", OWC was one of the few consistently reliable suppliers of parts and upgrades.
Sounds like a sales pitch but I assure you I just like to support companies that stuck with the Mac community when everyone else was writing us off for dead.

Not unexpected. With the move to standard, socketed Intel processors the market for Mac processor upgrades is going to go into steep decline real soon and the manufacturers will have to consolidate or die.

I didn't think that OWC had that much cash but then again I stopped buying from them years ago as their requirements for an overseas purchase was a joke. Pay by credit card but still need your passport faxed to them! The answer was a swift no and a loss of business, pity they don't accept Paypal!

This sounds like good news to me. G4-based PowerMacs are long-lived and very reliable. Through OWC I've been able to do a series of cost-effective upgrades to keep my Sawtooth users (graphic designers) productive. Tiger and the Adobe apps run quite well with PowerLogix dual G4 CPUs, lots of RAM and updated ATI video cards. I'm glad that OWC enabled me to skip the G5 generation through their good support of my G4 systems.

I've had nothing but horrible customer service from Powerlogix. It took them a year and a half to replace a bum processor upgrade I had bought. The one they sent out as a replacement came from OWC and was also DOA. Unfortunately I'm not getting anything better customer service from OWC. I'm tempted to start fishing for folks who are interested in some kind of class action suit. OK, not really, but kind of. Good luck with your fight.
