Search
utilities for the Finder's menu bar certainly aren't anything new, but Nuevos by Waffle Software is a nice one (and free!). With Nuevos
installed, you can query any number of online search engines, including ones you've defined yourself. Create keystrokes
to select the particular engine you want Nuevos to use for a given search (for example, Command-G for Google and
Command-1 for the Apple Developer Connection), as well as a hot key to make it active. It's fast, unobtrusive and quite
useful.Nuevos requires Mac OS 10.3.9 or better and is universal.

I think this would be a great little app if the search engine shortcuts worked.

With spotlight and inquisitor, who needs this sort of thing?

Might i suggest Butler? It does the hotkey search thing very well, as well as quite a lot more - app/file launching, bookmark management, clipboard extension, hot corners, itunes controls; so much more, all completely customisable.

Oh yes. It works with Oracle Metalink. If you have ANYTHING to do with oracle and you use a Mac for your day to day stuff (All three of us) get this and set it up with metalink.

Apparently, I broke the search shortcuts fairly recently. Obviously I should have tested this, but I didn't. There hopefully will be an update today to address this.
Jason: I use both Spotlight and Inquisitor, and I do need it! Maybe it helps that I'm using Safari as one of many browsers, though.
Some people use LaunchBar and Quicksilver and get anything done. Some other people just can't work with it, no matter the potential (I'm one of those), and some people yet don't care about that, they just want a search field. Nuevos aims at the latter two groups.
There's nothing wrong with LaunchBar, Quicksilver, Butler, iSeek, Inquisitor and so on, but none of them invalidate Nuevos' existence.
